There is a hole on the top center of the steering rack (somewhat hidden below the bundle of fuel lines, etc) into which you can insert a thin rod (4 or 5 mm or so) to locate an indent in the rack for centering purposes. (I used a #1 phillips screwdriver)

When I received my car, with the steering wheel centered and the wheels pointing straight ahead, the rack was substantially off center. So I first re-centered the rack, then while keeping the rack centered, set the wheels as parallel to the frame and as equal left to right as I could measure (mudguards removed helped), then set the track with a track gauge, then re-centered the steering wheel via re-positioning the steering universal joint. Whew!

After a test drive, I did a final re-centering of the steering wheel by re-adjusting the tie rods, plus 2 flats on one end and minus 2 flats on the other.

The reason I went to all that trouble was not so much how it drove, but rather that the left mudguard was just able to touch the exhaust on full lock.

If the rear wheel is out of line the car will "crab" rather than pull. So the steering wheel will be slightly off but the car should track straight.

Similalry if the front wheels are OK but the rack is off centre you'll have the same symptom of the steering wheel being off.

If you are having to hold steering lock to go straight then it points to the front wheels being misaligned.

As above, the only adjustment (on the standard car) is via the steering rack so use one of the methods above get the front wheels parallel and work from there.

Maybe bad news. Carefully check your chassis for cracks/breaks. I have a 2012 that developed one crack and a complete break AND pulled to the right. When reported to the factory they had ISIS motors here in the Bay Area replace the complete chassis--now a happy car and a happy me!

Wouldn't the caster in the front suspension cause it to pull in this situation. The front end should want to "straighten-out" from the caster, or is the caster angle so slight in the M3W that this is not a factor?

Since this is a new issue that the OP noted, just after a service, the most obvious thing to check would be the rear wheel alignment I'd think.
