I want to modify the angle of the wiper and indicator stalks on my ARP4, to push the steering wheel away from me a little more, but come up against the stalks, if these could be bent closer to the dashboard it would probably give me another inch or so,(and let's face it, who doesn't want another inch!), however, I don't want to break what I've got, if it all goes wrong, so I need to buy another unit to practice on, but don't know what it is originally sourced from? Would it be something like a Focus or maybe a Vauxhall product?

Any ideas anyone?

The next question is, with judicious application of a hot air gun, can the stalks be bent back towards the dash a little or are they likely to be reinforced with steel internals of some sort?

Don't know about the newer type, but last year I asked the same question about the stalks on the eighties +8. No real answer so took chance and gently Bent them...,worked ok. Please don't send me the bill if it goes wrong... Check first.

They're from the 1991 facelift of the Rover 800 series. Discovery took them for the 1994MY facelift. Even the plastic column shroud and height adjustment is 800 series. Cowley engineering chaps. Not Solihull.

Or for our American cousins, the Rover Sterling. But I don't believe the stalks used in the states were the same (they were more stubby) but the adjustment and shroud is the same.

The 1980s car stalks were thin metal tubes covered in plastic and had to be bent to get them to fit. It's one of those jobs that you have to do firmly but gently, and in one go. I think they come from something like a Triumph Dolomite originally

I have no idea about the later switches, but it wouldn't surprise me if they were similar.

I will try to remember to look at my spare when I get home at the weekend.
From memory they are all plastic.

Thinking about it, the later 4/4 I have now has all the function s on twist switches Wich could cause a lot of problems.
