Hello there,

I've got round to making a luggage rack for my 1938 DHC. The rack is going to replace the spare wheel clamp, so I need to make a long bolt to fasten the rack onto the spare wheels (into the spare wheel mounting tube).

Would anyone please able to tell me the thread size for the T-bar securing the spare wheels please? I can't find anything similar in my shed (and my car seems to have a nice mixture of metric, imperial and Whitworth threads so I'm not going to take a guess!).

Looks like it might be 1/2" Whitworth (12 tpi, 1/2" OD, 3/8" ish root diameter)?

Alternatively, does anyone have a T-bar they'd like to sell for beer money?!

Thanks,

James

Hi James,

I want to do a similar thing on my 1966 +4 which has steel wheels and a luggage carrier that doesn't fix to the over riders. I've got the replacement rack but need to sort out the fixing at the centre of the spare wheel.

John Worrall sells stainless T bars but not really beer money!

I assume you have twin spares? I have a twin spare 1955 +4. Likely the T bar will not have changed over the years so I will try and check the thread tomorrow.

Thank you all!

Yes, twin spares.

I've found some 1/2" BSW threaded bar on eBay so we should be away - will post pictures when it's done (if it's any good!).

Cheers,

James
