The car (S4 Aero) is on a Ctek charger in the garage and on Sunday I noticed a regular clicking from the fuse box area together with flashing of the interior light, the dashboard seat belt light and the headlight light both alternating with the hazard light switch. The external lights were not joining in.

Using the under bonnet circuit breaker stopped the flashing, but this resumed when the breaker was reconnected. Inserting the ignition key and switching on the ignition, but not starting the engine, stopped the flashing.

I noticed afterwards that the boot lid was not fully locked closed, not sure if this had any effect. Can anyone throw any light on this?

Did you try disconnecting the charger?

I ask because it could be a voltage based vagary of the system.

Neptune - not me but I think he's in the car!

Richard - Yes, but when reconnected it went to fault mode. Will try again at the weekend.

Don't know if this helps but with the ignition off and keys out, all the relays in the fuse box are still energised ( which I think is wrong) this is one of the causes why the battery goes flat quite quick compared to other cars. Best thing to do is use the circuit breaker when charger is connected. It could be one of the relays faulty, removing each relay in tern gives all sorts of weard effects. Have found this out on my 2008 S4.

That is very strange. Surely, when the ignition is off only circuits associated with any central locking, tracking and/or immobiliser need to be active.
