I made the 'box' from 6mm hardwood plywood
The leather was then cut from patterns and glued direct to the ply except the top which was layered over some thin foam
The only 'professional' bit was the diagonal stitching which an upholsterer ran up on the top which I marked out on that piece of leather before making the Lid
