Yesterday I was given a perfect but rusty bolt - originally intended for fitting wheels to the Bugatti Royale - of which only six were ever made.
It was from the residuals of the Molsheim Bugatti Factory in France -and came to me from Hugh Conway current Chairman of The Bugatti Trust at Prescot - where I am a volunteer on "Meet and Greet" duties.
I would like to refresh and mount the piece - any ideas please?
Cheers
David H

Use it as the basis for a restoration and claim you've found the 7th Royale

Either keep it rusty but seal it to preserve or remove rust. Removing rust is either chemical or electrolysis. I have cleaned rust off old tools by electrolysis and they go back to clean meta. You then need to seal them as they will rust again. Try phosphate coating? I used a spare Yuasa battery from my golf trolley. Make the bolt negative and use a large nail as positive.water with washing soda(salt would do). It will fizz a lot. The surface turns black but brushes off with a toothbrush. You should see nice clean bare metal. Safety....... Don’t let the nail touch the bolt. Well ventilated room. Rubber gloves. Frost auto might be worth looking at for electroplating kit but not as cheap. www.frost.co.ukAs for mounting....how about fixed to a framed photo of a Royale?

I am not certain, but I think that seven Royales were built and that six survive.

Only 6 Royale were built by Bugatti, the 7th "Esders Roadster" is a replica built by Schlumpf brothers in the sixties with a stock of parts bought to Bugatti in 1963, the engine was provided by a train (autorail) as Bugatti was also a train manufacturer. This Replica is exposed at the entrance of the Musée at Mulhouse wich contains also 2 Royale in the main building. FyI - The french MOG 2008 and 2017 were organized in Alsace and the "soirée de gala" was held at Mulhouse inside the Musée among all these Bugatti.

There were 3 Bugatti Royales at Retromobile (albeit one was a replica made from Bugatti parts by the Schlumpf brothers). It was a real treat to see them side by side - the Napoleon Coupé in particular is an astonishing beast. https://www.goodwood.com/grrc/road/news/2015/2/retromobile-2015-the-bugatti-royales/

So I’m guessing your bolt is one of those 8 bolts around the centre of the wheel in the photo?
If so I’m guessing it’s quite a long bolt and not something easily mounted in a small frame
How about getting a model of a Royale and laying the bolt alongside it on a plinth under a Perspex case

David, I could do a painting or drawing of the Bugatti to go alongside the Morgan one's that you already have of mine. The bolt could be mounted within the frame.

I saw the half-built replica (and also Ettore's Royale) when I managed to visit the museum shortly before it was opened to the public.
