Ok, so first newbie to Morgan’s question...

Had a call today to be told that my car will be due for delivery shortly, so very excited!

One thing that I am wondering about getting the dealer (Oakmere) to fit is a remote greasing system for the kingpins.

They can do this and will be letting me know the price Monday, but what do the experienced collective think of this mod? Worth doing or am I better spending the money on petrol?

I don’t necessarily fancy crawling around on the garage floor gaining access to the grease nipples, but neither do I fancy spending what will probably be a couple of hundred quid when I don’t need to...

As a supplementary question, if I don’t go for the remote kit, is replacing the existing nipples with 45 degree ones worth doing?

My opinion - fit the kit yourself. That way you'll do it your way (Jule Stein) and you'll really know what's going on below( Leonard Cohen) and you won't get fooled again (Townshend).

Remote greasing is a no brainer , two nipples each side of my plus 4 with red plastic covers on , pop off covers two shots of grease to each one , job done , don't overdo the shots , approx once a month depending on mileage .

I enjoy getting under the car. Take some spanners at the same time and make sure everything is tight.
However, getting back up again is a bu..er

Agreed. It really isn't difficult - just get a good grease gun and a G.Coupler.

I greased mine the traditional way for 5 years, not difficult with a good grease gun.

Had a remote greasing kit as a birthday present this year, easy to fit and wish I had got one earlier.

The only problem as I see it with a remote greasing kit is that it might lead one to neglect all the other important parts of maintaining one's Morgan.

These are not modern cars, and cannot be treated as such when it comes to looking after them - they are essentially 1930's cars that they forgot to stop making , the only real difference is that they are fitted with modern engines.

Like Graham says, they benefit enormously from periodic spanner checks, and there are loads of bits and pieces that need lubing and checking.

Personally I think it would be better to spend some money on a decent trolley jack, set of ramps or even a lift, they turn all the maintenance jobs into a pleasure rather than a chore.

I had a remote kit for 3 to 4 years, worked fine but then got blocked so I removed it and now do it the greasing from underneath.

On balance i would rather see what's going on down there and importantly, seeing that no grease goes into the discs.

In 1970 I participated in "Morgans Over America III" a 5 week tour. Every other night I would crawl under My Morgan to grease the Stub Axle/King Pins. That was enough for Me. After that I drilled a long grease galley down the center of the King Pin and then cross drilled so the grease would flow. It worked a treat. But drilling this long hole was certainly a challenge. To Me I would buy the kit and install it in a heart beat. PITA crawling on Your belly to grease a Morgan. This is the 21st Century ya know!
