Having collected much dirt under the car in the last couple of weeks of damp road motoring I wonder if anyone has great ideas for the best way of cleaning the underside, especially with the low ground clearance. I guess that it is a wheels off job but curious to know how others do this as I don't want t use a hose.

I just find a big puddle and drive through it - but then I would never enter a concours either!

Family now gone home so peace & quiet. Got to go on the interwebthingy to find some new all season tyres for the Fiesta - the nearside front was as flat as a witches t*t yesterday - so had to drive swmbo to church in the Mog - taking the car for a service?? Found a large crosshead screw in the tyre when I removed the wheel this AM - but only 3.5mm tread left so time for new ones at the front anyway.

You can then use this opportunity to check over all the bits that should be tight, plus the brakes, check for any hoses/cables chafing & I then mask over the brake discs and give the under-arches a blast over with a coat of Waxoil, or similar

I was thinking of getting winter tyres for the Kia as my son bought them for his car and said they make a big difference. Jess is now pushing me to get them. Any thoughts? Are they worth it, as I'll be coming to Derby a few times over the next three months.

If you don't want to use a hose, then might I suggest getting the car as high in the air as you can, maybe on axle stands, and using a coupe of spray bottles? I use a pump sprayer loaded with MPC (Multi-purpose cleaner, I use Bilt-Hamber Surfex HD) and rinse off with plain water in a pump-action sprayer. A pan scrubbing brush is handy for agitating the MPC before rinsing off.

I do it with the car in the garage up on the scissor lift, using a greenhouse plant tray to catch the drips.

Well I just use a hose if the roads might be salty. Once every 2 years I spray on waxoyl and before that brush off the dry stuff.

Karcher do a trolley attachment that can be pushed under the car you don't even need to bend down!

Put your lawn sprinkler under the car and let it oscillate backwards and forwards for a while.

Bob - are winter tyres worth it? Very definitely!! I fit them every Nov. and leave them on till the end of March.

Just had winter wheels and tyres fitted to the AMG C43. Michelin Pilot Alpine rubber. The worst part was that to fit them I had to buy a set of alloy wheels to fit over the massive brakes. The result, whilst eye-wateringly expensive, is that the car now feels glued to the road.

I've considered winter tyres for the Plus 8, but again 4 new alloy wheels needed to clear the discs and calipers, so for the milage I drive in winter a bit indulgent.

As to washing the underside, I don't.
