Some smooth castings have slots cut into them like this to allow for a pry bar to be used to pop the two halves apart. This looks like a machined cut out on the one half only which would give the impression of a slot cut into the case.
I would guess that on the other side of the crankcase you'll find another similar cut in one half of the case so that the two pry bars are about 180 degrees apart for disassembly purposes.

No cut like that on the other side. I would think they’d cast a cut in for prying. This is obviously sawed out.

Pretty sure I’ve now identified the source of the leak. Is this the sender for the oil pressure idiot light, or what? https://www.tm-img.com/image/YhQxn

Ken. Look at your picture that you've uploaded. See at the bottom, there it says "embed codes"? That's where you get all the links to be able to embed the code to link to your picture for all sorts of applications, including Bulletin Board applications like TalkMorgan. Click on 'Embed Codes' then scroll down the list until you see 'BBCode", it's the 6th one down in the 'Full Image' section. Hover your mouse over the right hand end of the link and a little 'copy' button appears. click on that and it will copy the link to your clipboard. The all you have to do is paste it into your TalkMorgan message and it will make the image appear direct in your post. That way people don't have to click on the link to view the image:

Actually, no, lol. Using my phone and don’t see “embed codes”. Ah. I only ever use a proper computer. I'll have a look. Are you iPhone or Android?

iPhone. My iMac finally became obsolete and I’ve been watching to see if I need to buy anew.

Per the parts book, it's the cam angle sensor. I believe this is used by the ECU for crank position, rpm, etc.
There is no seal shown in the parts book, but the sensor is cylindrical, so maybe an o-ring?

iPhone. My iMac finally became obsolete and I’ve been watching to see if I need to buy anew. Ken. I have Android but I think iPhone would show the same thing. When you display an image it usually shows full screen at first, if I "touch" on the image again it brings up a medium sized image and underneath it a lot of details. Down 3 lines is the word "About" and next to it is an up and down pointer. This is in fact the menu which, if you touch on the "About" brings up the options;"About", "Embed codes", and "Full info". If you touch on "Embed codes" you get a list of possible embed codes with a little "Copy" button on each one. Scroll down to "BBCode", touch on the "Copy" button and then you can paste the copied embed code directly in to your post. Have fun Peter
