Last Monday I became the happy owner of a 1978 4/4. Beeing a happy amateur I'm quite sure that I will run into serious troubles during my restoration project and thus regret my irresponsibility several times.
However, I will rely on help from all you experts and I look forward to getting started.

Dix, every journey begins with a start and while I'm sure you'll encounter bumps and potholes along the way, I hope the wind is always at your back and the restoration goes smoothly.

Is she in immediate need of restoration? If not I would advise to drive her for a time before you start the resto. This would give you an idea of what is essential and what not.

Your point makes sense, but restoration is definately badly needed, and apart from that the car is taking apart in a way making it impossible to drive.

Will this be your first restoration of a car? If so, we could probably give you some tips about those things we learnt the hard way. I'm sure you know the basics like take a lot of pictures of absolutely everything before dismantling and of every dismantling step. And don't try to do something better than ist was original or your resto will never end.

Yes, this is my first restoration of a car. And I am a total virgin on this field. My cars has always been serviced by the local dealer, and with servicing I mean everything: Checking pressure in the tyres, water in the cooling-system, condition of brakes, changing oil a.s.o.
I am sure I will be back for advises, and as to pics I will take a lot - some will be posted when appropriate.

Sounds like you are jumping in at the deep end Dix. I admire you for that. Good luck! I will be watching your progress with interest so keep us informed. Oh, and you could not have chosen a more worthwhile vehicle to "rescue".

The "dream" arrived early January. And now the car is stripped down to a naked chassis.
As inspected - and expected, there is a lot of rust in the various parts, and also the chassis needs a major overhaul. Next week, I will have it sandblasted and after that I will decide, whether it is worth to spend time in replacing and welding parts of it.
