Thank you for the link - so it extends life of parts rather than “improves/softens” the ride. The cost appears worth it though I guess.

Without some form of cover over the rebound spring, road dirt will contaminate the grease and you can expect around 10,000 miles (or less) between suspension overhauls. With a cover / gaiter, then expect in excess of 25,000 miles.

You could always just wrap part of a chopped up inner tube or corrugated split electrical conduit around the lower springs. Hold in place with cable ties. A simpler/cheaper option...
Also, Dave W occasionally has a stock in mohair which are quick to fit (held with velcro).
