Experience yesterday on the A515 north of Ashbourne, shows that some of those driving the cars in which they feel safer reduces any tendency towards defensive driving...

maybe then, Simon has to admid he loves the latest MINI's because he can fit is marvelous , but very TALL body behind the steeringwheel I believe I already did earlier in this thread? I am also partial to Aeroman's new micro-car. Personally, I'd be happy for the governments to ban SUVs, stretched limos and any other personal transport behemoth; HOWEVER, the proviso would be that they also banned road transport using Articulated Lorries, Vans and any other large vehicle. I drive many many miles a year, all across Europe and I drive an SUV because (A) I like the safety net of 4WD in snowy conditions, (B) I like the driving position due to the myriad of other large cars on the road, (C) anything smaller on the motorways gets bullied by Artics, Vans, Transports, etc and lastly, (D) a heavy car is about the only thing that doesn't get buffeted all over the motorways in bad (windy) weather. I love the Mini but I wouldn't want to do 20,000 motorway miles per annum in one.

It is a good question Steven. Failing Brian's option to overcome the potential problem, I simply may not fit into one. I guess we won't have to long to wait until I can test it for myself.

Interesting thoughts. For 'everyday' driving I would probably plump for a 4x4 if I could budget for a decent one, pretty much entirely for visibility reasons. Where I live the lighting is very poor at night and generally cramped urban roads mean that an extra bit of sight goes a long way to avoiding hazards (which are more numerous). After driving a Transit for work purposes for a long period of time it always felt really weird hopping into my Mini!
Of course, you also have the fact that many smother speed bumps much better due to their weight, same with potholes, both of which are much bigger concerns for me than they used to be. I suppose many will be decrying the new Countryman but I would guess that it'd be pleasant in the way a Qashqai or Kuga is (the latter I rather like as well).

A new Countryman parked up next to us in a motorway services just before Christmas. Have to admit I was quite taken with it. But, I do like the extra height of the 90, particularly in the dark.
