Yes it is the downdraft onto the back of your head/neck that is the key thing to get sorted. I have had a hat blown off and into the footwell once.

Morganettes don't worry about how they look its whats practical and is most comfortable that counts. My Morganette wears a cloth flying helmet, protects the ears from wind noise and a wide brimmed hat for sun protection. I wear the cloth flying helmet so we both match and wave at the passing hoi poloi.

The present Mrs Jenks favours fur/fake fur hats when the weather is anything but hot! She also has a1920s style linen hat from "Peak and Brim" for the summer, rather like this one..... I did suggest the idea of a flying helmet.... I will not write her reply in a public place, but it did involve a stick of wet celery as well as the flying helmet .....and I wouldn't enjoy it.

Mostly, I do not agree on hoods. Part of the fun with a Morgan is looking around and enjoying the scenery. When you turn your head with a hood on you just look into the inner "wall" of the hood, it doesn't follow your movements. There are of course skiing and yachting jackets that have hoods designed to avoid this problem, but an ordinary jacket/hood, - no. The best idea I have seen in this thread is the Suburban Turban, provided you have a jacket with a veeery high collar. The worst turbulence comes from behind. Sidescreens does not prevent that, only reduces it. Nothing beats a flying helmet. I like the Sterkowski Kathmandu (or even Siberia, if you have more exotic interests) for the (detachable) neck protector/collar.

Personally, I am prepared: I have a leather flat cap, a leather flying helmet (two actually, but as one is red I'm not allowed it out of the house) and a sheepskin trapper's hat with foldy down flaps. In fact I probably have too many hats. My wife, however has a sense of dignity that I lack. Favoured options so far are Pashmina and hood. She gave up on the balaclava during "the troubles".
