I had thought at one point that I would move back to California where the DMV would stick a thing up the pipe to measure emissions. So, for me, cat removal was not a thing. In Vermont, as long as the tires are good and the lights work, no problem!
What's your mileage? Who cares. Is it practical? See #1. What happens when it rains? You get wet.

I'm not knowledgeable on modern smog equipment and electronics but won't you have to change the black box to an unlocked version so you can retune motor to work properly without cats? Also potential warranty problems if you are still in warranty. Also in USA there can be hefty fines if you get caught. I know some people who have had to pay them for modifying their diesel pickups.

A number of people in the UK have done it , in the UK the M3W does not have an emissions check as part of the annual MOT. My understanding is the adaptive ECU control means a retune is not required. I agree probably not something to do if you are in warranty , and want to keep it. You could also argue the worth of the Morgan warranty outside the UK Going back a few years I have read on here folk in the US doing it , but cannot recall locations sorry. I also dont think I have read any positive or negative knockons of doing this, other than its louder - I was just putting the suggestion out as the first post in the thread mentioned removing baffles in the exhaust, and if you are doing that it makes sense to at least consider removing the cats.

Guys, as the OP, this is timely banter. Before reading this last post, I just resurrected an old thread to essentially ask this same question regarding the ECU. If you don't mind, I'll ask it here too as I'm 'cat deep' in winter projects.
Basically, with the cats and baffles removed and the addition of a less restrive intake, is this not essentially a 'homemade' Stage 1 (perhaps a tad louder)? But does the stock, US-spec ECU have enough bandwidth to compensate for the already DOT-mandated lean programming?
If the goal is Stage 2 anyway, say a G56 which includes a remapped ECU, will it play happily with the 'homemade' Stage 1 (and save the cost of Stage 1 pipes)?

True the warranty doesn't mean as much in the USA unless you are one of the fortunate few that live close to a dealer. My closest two dealers are 1100 and 1200 miles away respectively.
Enforcement for smog compliance is not uniform either. Some areas do nothing to enforce it while other areas are draconian. Have to be careful where you travel if you are modified.
Wish Morgan and S&S would work out some power modifications that were compliant like the car manufacturers have. You can get some autos over here now that put out massive amounts of power without smog problems.

Why do you need to take off the headpipes to remove the baffles, surely you just separate the pipes at the join after the silencer? Yes no need to touch the head pipes. The joint is in front of the silencer. I used exhaust jointing paste when remaking to aid seal & make future removal easier
