Marian, I enquired from Richard Thorne and was told that they expected to have a throttle body kit available for retro fitting to plus4's later in the year.Apparrently they have to supply a seperate ECU as well as the present one is not able to handle individual throttle bodies. Estimated cost in the region of £2700!!
Food for thought!!!
Cheers!

Staggering... £2700 Thats about twice the sum of a throttle body conversion for a 2.0 Duratec mounted in a Ford. Does the Morgan REALLY feature a different ECU? Curious what kind of air filter they're using.

[quote=Marian]Staggering... £2700 All indications are that for the best performance with a Mog fitted with DirectThrottlebodies the best EMU is the Omex 2000. That way you don't get into a 'piggyback 'situation If whoever has fitted it has sorted it properly then they are going for individual TBs. These can be direct to head or via a manifold. In either case, ( especially thelatter) these should be tuned for length etc for maximum performance. Such TBs should run via direct filters ( such as ITG) HTH G

Gerwyn, I was just fancying a few more ponies -- I'm not sure that they are worth this sort of money though. I would accept the wisdom of Richard Thorne on the subject however -- he has done this sort of modification on quite a number of the 4/4 sports so he must know what is involved
Cheers!

To fit individual throttlebodies to either the Duratec +4 or sigma engined 4/4 you have to use a piggy backed ECU This is primarily because the Ford ECU fitted to the cars not only controls the engine but also runs the instruments through a CAN system. The instruments simply will not work if the ford ecu is removed
I can attest to this having been the senior race and development engineer at RTCC for nearly ten years and having developed many of the products RTCC now sell
I now work with Peter Mulberry at Mulberry Fabrications
Chas Windridge at Mogsport, who we share a workshop with, has carried out many Duratec Throttle body conversions and is well versed in the pros and cons of the job
He can even supercharge your Duratec giving circa 280BHP!!!

Is he using a tapered throttle body set up? Also (and this is only my surmise from seeing some pictures) given the width of the ITG air filter he fits, is he using very short air horns? I may be acting on duff information but it is my understanding - and put me out of my misery if I am wrong- that in the case of the Zetec engine as fitted to later 4/4s, it is possible to do everything via the Omex ECU with no need to piggyback? Alternatively, would it be possible to eliminate the need for a piggyback ECU by remapping the original Ford unit or fitting an Omex and thn remapping that? regards, G
