I was just looking on the web to see how to apply for an International Driving Permit in case there's a no-deal Brexit and I need one for the trip to Montlhery. Of all the cars they could use on the website they chose a Mog: (scroll down) IDP Someone at the Post Office clearly has good taste

Steve
You can get them very quickly from main Post Offices , so no need to panic before we know what is happening post 29th March.
Like you I will need one for a trip to Slovenia in June, but there is plenty of time if indeed one is needed.

I'm sure you're right Andy, no need to panic. I was just idly checking to see whether it was a send-off or in-person process, if it were the former I could see a "we can't cope with the demand, we weren't expecting it" situation It's interesting that it seems we (the UK) will continue to recognise EU driving licences but the EU may not recognise UK ones. Or will it all be another storm in a teacup that fizzles out?

Or will it all be another storm in a teacup that fizzles out? I think that the most likely scenario. We didn't need IDP to drive in Europe before joining the EU and I'm confident a bilateral agreement will be done with or without a Brexit deal. If not, then getting an IDP will be quick and easy from a main post office.

You will probably find that strictly speaking it should be required but in reality the form of the driving licence is still in conformity with the EU standard so it is unlikely to be enforced.
The problem will be if you meet a cop who has a chip on his shoulder or, perhaps, if you are unfortunate enough to be involved in a serious accident.

It seems to say you need one whichever country you put in.

Yes Italy and France came up with the 1968 which came as a surprise to me.
