I have a small rectangular block to the left of the radio in my 2003 Plus 8 (sorry - can't seem to work out how to attach an image!) It is horizontal and approx 25mm x 12mm and black with a black bezel Looks like maybe a light or switch blank but unlike any others in the car. Any ideas? Could it be the infra red sensor for the radio remote controller?

It is not a part of the radio, but sits perhaps 12mm to the left of it in the same vertical console/panel

Could it be the infra red sensor for the radio remote controller? I have a remote control sensor which is about 20mm square, or perhaps a little larger, which is wired to the back of the radio and attached to the housing next to the radio with double sided tape.

Hi jong, Unfortunately you doubled up on the [img] tags as the image icon puts them in for you. This is what it looks like with just the one set. I agree with Wirewheel and Peter that it's likely an aftermarket wireless remote sensor given manual here

Do a test. If you have the handset point it at the radio as it is. If radio functions as expected try the next step. Cover the rectangular box to blank it. Try the handset again. If it fails then the rectangle is a sensor. If the radio works, blank off the sensor in the radio faceplate and try again. There is a chance that there are two sensors, the rectangle being a piggyback to enhance use. You could also then clear the rectangle bit and repeat the test. You have thus sussed out which sensor(s) work. Have you had a look behind that rectangle? Is there any plug/socket/wiring to it?

No handset, but I'll check if it's wired Thanks TBH if it is to do with the radio, it can go. I'll replace it with a second (accessible) 12v or usb socket.
