Hi All,
Just been out in Car, and oil pressure went up to 7 and beyond. On tickover it is about 4.
Anyone got any ideas?

Did the pressure drop once the oil warmed up (assuming it did warm up) Cold oil will always generate a higher pressure reading as it is more viscous?
Gone are the days when the gauge actually measured the oil pressure from a hydraulic line, now the majority are taking data from an electrical sensor somewhere in the engine.
As a result 9 times out of 10 an electrical issue is down to poor connections or poor earths (or both!) So I would recommend finding the sensor and cleaning the electrical connector to it, also have a good look at the earth for the dashboard wiring and instruments.

My Roadster shows up to 4 bar cold and just under 1 bar hot idle.

Andy I had a similar problem but on my Rover V8 Mog.
False, silly pressure reading on the dash gauge.
The problem was with the sender unit to the gauge. My car has two senders, the other is to the ecu so it will shut down the engine if there is a pressure problem. I replace the gauge sensor and problem solved.
The rover shows 4 bar on cold start, runs when warm at just under 4 bar, dropping to 1-1.5 bar on idle. This low idle pressure is worrying until you realise it is normal!
I don’t know how the roadster measures pressure...is it just a single sensor or two like the Rover ?

No - mine shows about 4 when idling, and over 7 when over 3,000 revs for more than a minute.

I had exactly those symptoms on my Zetec 4/4 and it was the sender unit at fault.
Changed it and all was well.

I am already satisfied if my oil pressure gauge shows more than 1. These are interpretable and emotionally driven suggestions that display the gauges in the Morgan. I could just as well have a display tool built in that shows if my Morgan is in a good mood today.

Never bothered with the dials- as they were misted up most of the time.
