Can anyone recommend some spot lights that wil look great on the front of my black 4/4? I ordered some Cibie Tango a little while ago but was refunded because apparently they are out of stock and out of production frown

I really want chrome rings to match the headlights. I think the Cibie Oscars are probably too big (and rather expensive).

I've seen some options at Holden and SVC etc but I'd appreciate info from anyone with first hand experience of how they look on the car and how they light up the road.

Cheers

I have original factory option drive lamps. TBH I'd like something with better light output (and the bottom of the reflector in both lamps needs replating), but so far I've not found anything suitable.
I did have one Oscar Plus sitting on the shelf in the garage that might have done, but couldn't find another one (so sold it via eBay). I have a feeling they may be available again, in a new guise but haven't checked.
Be interested to see what you end up with... thumbs

In case you have not seen the Oscars on a Mog, have a look at the Librands site. I think they look very classy but, as you say, at a price

Brian,
This is a bit 'fuzzy' but I recall seeing somehwere that the power of the big Cibies can cause problems with the wiring- which needs to be heavier gauge to accomodate them (burn out?)
Has anyone else seen this or experienced similar problems?

Not an issue for me. I've got Lumax spots and I suspect their output is so low that they are the equivalent of a no-watt bulb!!
regards,
G

Graham: I like your idea of a single spotlight, mounted in the centre it would look like the "Cyclops" Rovers of the 50's, very original for a Morgan?

I have seen Cibie Oscars mounted on Holden utes in an amassed array on a roll cage behind the cabs. They look awesome but are a very large lens light, from memory, larger than the standard Morgan headlights? might look a bit funny! pale

I have standard "Morgan" type spots but because of the kangaroo danger at night, never ever venture out after dusk, even dusk is fraught with danger. but they look nice and give the front view a bit of balance and grace!

Just glad that we dont live in the age of the giant possums and northern hairy nosed sabre toothed Wombats, then even daytime driving would be a problem.... grin2

Not at all. The orignal 'Flat Rad' 4-4s had a middle 'paassing light' which came on when the headlights were dimmed/ switched off!

Hi All,
I have installed the Librands all stainless steel spot ligths, but they come with 100W lamps. I tried to use with these bulbs and firstly I found that the ground "sugars" heated, so I rewired the ground both side, taking the ground directly on the body. This worked very well, but after that I found that the original Morgan harness (Blue/yellow) warmed, less than the ground at the first try.
I estimated it was not safe to keep these bulbs and fitted standard H3 55W, and all ran well.
The power of the bulbs is the only source of consumption.

100W bulbs are illegal on-road in the UK, end of. They draw over 8 amps, twice the headlamp draw so must be wired via a fused relay (each lamp) via 30amp cable feed and ground. I presume Librands supply the full kit of parts? We use 130W in the Dakar Bowler which is also used in 24 hour off-road races. Pretty good but OTT on a Mog I would have thought! Not to mention the infuriating (to oncoming traffic) jiggling of a Morgan's head and spot lamps.
