I'm just coming to the end of the work I've been doing to sort out my 4/4 ( 2000 Zetec) We've done a fair bit to the long engine and the head but also tried to 'clean up' the engine bay There were three particular problems: one was the induction side. ( We intend to go to individual throttle bodies next year) In the meantime, we've come up with this The second was the generally cr"p hoses the factory fit as standard so we went for a custom made set of silicone hoses The third was the tatty state of the heater box, which we had re-powder coated and then used stainless steel mesh instead of that horrible 'brillo pad' the Factory fit as OE. ( With acknowledgements to Andy Jackson at ITG for the induction figures and how we could adopt one of their 'Maxogen' closed inductions kits, Paul Roose for the hoses and in particular to Mike and Ben Duncan at the Hartlebury Garage, who put a lot of my ideas into practice)
Gerwyn, Very tidy, indeed! Is that some form of heat insulation you have around the heater box(Photo 1)?? What is it and what benefits have you achieved? Did you consider any form of heat shield to try and keep the cockpit cooler?
I like the look of your heater box cover. I'm in the process of tidying mine up. I couldn't powder coat it as it had a small dent in it from new, so I filled the dent and rattle canned it black - looks OK, Like you I will replace the rusty mild steel self-tappers with SS, but intend to use socket screws into rivnuts.
Particularly interested in your SS mesh, at the moment I intended to use PC case filter material. May I ask where you sourced yours and how you secured the rear of the mesh?
Also did you have some foam draught excluder between the box and the bulkhead? If so have you found anything more suitable to replace it with?
In line with my comments when you gave me an early preview of your efforts, the best think about these mods is that you've not only improved the aesthetics under the Morgan bonnet but also the performance; to my mind, that makes these mods all the more worthwhile.

Exactly Simon - it not only looks good, but that new induction piping must improve performance too.

They did a 10 holes per inch in 0.9mm guage SS wire which was ideal. ( Not my idea, Ben D had used brass mesh from them on his narrow boat so we knew what they had on offer We used Mr Worrall’s finest slotted SS screws throughout. The mesh seems to have worked well. It is quite stiff and looks right. The back edge is folded to give a neat, rigid edge. We thought about putting put a couple of screws and washers in at the back edge but it really doesn’t need them – less is sometimes more but we are keeing this under review regards, G
