I think you might be right about wheel size, I'm tempted by 18" rims, downsizing from 19 to 18" improved both ride and handling in my old M3 and Monaro.
I'd definitely try 19" rims on yours before pulling the pin

Tyre choice is important too. The oem tyres on the 18's were atrocious. Have Conti-Sports on now and coupled with all the hardware changes a big improvement in the ride.
The GT seems to have gone the adjustable suspension route but stuck with the same ARB's. Don't know what damping and spring rates they have though. The key points on ARB's in the analysis on mine was the rear ARB was far too stiff and the front ARB not stiff enough.

That's interesting Ian, did you increase spring rates much? I can see me getting some custom dampers made up.

Which OEM tyres did you try Shooter?
I think the factory throw on whatever comes to hand, or is cheapest that week... I drew a set of Yokohamas, which I like. At least, once the fronts had worn in a bit and lost their bite... it oversteers a lot less now - you might even describe the handling as 'neutral'
That said, having somehow got 10,000 miles out of the rears (and with tread left!) I'm changing them for a new set - it'll be interesting to see if the power oversteer becomes stronger.
I suspect the car is quite sensitive to changes (to say the least!)
Gareth, I'd talk to Richard Thorne who did Shooter's suspension setup - he was extremely helpful when I spoke to him... I don't doubt I'll work my way towards a similar setup - 19s, reset ARBs and the revised spring/damper setup.

My S3 rides much better with tyre pressures reduced to 23 psi and tyres never get too warm.
Steering feels much better than when on original Avon tyres. Now on the Avon ZZ5 all round. Highly recommended.
Steering also benefitted greatly from suspension being properly setup. My car's handling as originally supplied was inconsistent and the car oversteered quite easily. Not any more. Grip is excellent.
Even cars from good dealers seem to have suspension setup badly.
I still think a good S3 is the best Aero all round. (But then I would, wouldn't I?)
