Hello,
The warranty on my 2016 M3W is about to expire, to date, although the warranty repairs have been many I have not had a failure whilst driving.Many on the site talk about sorting a failure out whilst on the move and I wondered if there was a consensus on what was worth carrying? Luggage and such permitting.And where you would source those bits and bobs.

Roger G is the man to be touring with as you may have by now seen his spares list.
Ironic that he has never needed to use any himself yet he has helped countless others by having the parts on board.
I believe that if doing any sort of touring in an old or new Morgan Three wheeler it is wise to carry some parts to get you out of trouble.
Another must is a list of dealers, UK and Overseas, you may find that it is possible to limp into one if you have a problem rather than go through the protracted breakdown scenario.
Here on TM there is now a growing group of owners who are serious users of their Mog, that confidence grows quicker when you mix with others who may have suffered mishaps already.
On the weekend of Fri 12th April to Sun 14th April a large group of us are staying at The Best Western Valley Hotel , Iron Bridge, a weekend of fun, driving Morgan Three Wheelers and of course talking about them. You would learn more and meet many of the names you see on TM at that do.
Why not come and spend the day with us on the Saturday ? in your Mog of course.

If, like me, you are not mechanically gifted there is limited value in carrying spares. If it's peace of mind you are after, don't forget you can easily extend the car's parts and labour warranty by getting insurance. I found this invaluable on my first M3W which was a 2013 model prone to early faults. It was sold to me by a dealer after the MMC warranty had expired - so they simply added a 1 year warranty policy from Centurion which later covered the costs of replacing the regulator and oil pressure sensor which soon packed up. I was quoted £120 to extend for another year...(less than the cost of the regulator)

So my spares kit is:
1.) European breakdown and recovery (I can recommend Startrescue who have recovered me twice in one year so far - once from France and last week from Land's End - good value for £50 annual premium)
2.) Mobile phone and car charger
3.)an extended car warranty (which I will take out once my 3 yr MMC warranty has expired)
4.) A laminated card with the phone numbers for recovery/warranty and "Do not tow this car" translated into French/German etc as your itinerary requires - to keep in your wallet
5.) An umbrella to keep you dry as you wait in the rain for recovery - and help maintain a suitably eccentric demeanour

Alternatively, as Ian suggests, travel in the company of other Mog owners and be amazed at what they know and can fix!

Thanks to Rog G, I was able to look at the suggested list. Its comprehensive and for the more technically gifted than I. I am reasonably happy to have a go at older classics where its just simple mechanical fettling but the M3W frightens me!!. I think I will subscribe to the regular servicing, AA/RAC membership, know where the dealers are and making sure its well prepared before going on an adventure.

I had seen the Iron Bridge weekend and as its only 40 mins away do mean to go and see whats happening.

I was also interested on the route you intend to use to get there. I have friends in Taunton, we would like to see in the summer, and the route, avoiding Motorways, is long. It looks like a leisurely 2 hours then lunch, followed by another 2 hours, mainly on the A38.

Fully understand your train of thought.
I have several 20's 30s Morgan three wheelers and a +4 plus much other stuff like vintage bikes etc so am used to rebuilds and thinking outside the box.
As Maria and I travel thousands of miles in Europe in the old Mogs it comes naturally to be able to fix them, cause no one at the roadside can.
When the new M3W came out I had been into Morgans long enough to know that it was best to let others bear the pain for a year or two. By last year I had learnt enough via the media, talking to owners and especially TM that the M3W is a modern version of my old Morgans. You need to do things, to check things, to be prepared to replace things before they fail. I deliberately bought one of the early ones that had had everything done that I had on my list of possible failures.
The first owner bore the brunt of that pain and gave up, giving me what I perceive to be a bargain and a load of fun. Now we intend to use it like our old uns too.
Maria and I are long distance travellers so are used to Motorways/Autobahns as the best way to cover miles. We will be using M5 to M50 then into Malvern to link up with an American owner and his partner who have bought a Mog 3W here and travel up together to Iron Bridge. If you are in Taunton on Fri 12th April we shall be leaving in the Am to be at Malvern before lunch. Also if you are in Taunton anytime by all means look us up we are really close to J25 Kettle is always on ! PM me.
Make sure you come to Iron Bridge to meet the crowd, it will be of help to you for sure.

Thank you for the info and invite. You did make me chuckle on two accounts:
1. your affliction or is it enthusiasm for the unreliable.
2. The size of your b**ls for ridding the motorways and Autobahns in such small vehicles.
I went to visit my youngest at his University last weekend and the A14 into Cambridge proved to be a rat run for every lorry going to an East coast port. I was never sure I had been seen especially when joining a 3 lane A road. My white knuckles where only too happy to regain blood once we hit Cambridge itself.
When living in Germany, a long while ago, my own experiences of cruising the unregulated Autobahn, and making Porsche engines automatically cut out to prevent engine damage at ridiculous speeds, still makes me smile, But I would worry now about meeting another idiot like myself.
Your Collection does sound very interesting and If I make it to my friends in Ruishton, in the summer, I will see if you are open for viewings!

My thoughts exactly, as a Morgan owner I too waited till the new build problems had been recognized and hopefully sorted. I bought mine from a frustrated owner who had all the serious/costly work done, 5 yrs old only 1100 miles and bargain price. As a long standing Morgan owner you learn.
