a bit of advice please chaps;I have the Aero8 annual service coming up soon and am considering a spark plug change.
I know the original plugs are rated 'till approx. 60K miles and I'm nowhere near that but it still seems like a good opportunity to check/replace the originals.
Any recommendations on what to go for?
There are various plugs which come up as suitable fitment from e.g. NGK,Bosch and Denso, amongst others.
I am leaning toward the Iridium tip versions; some have the 'normal' ,one electrode post whilst others (Bosch) have the four post electrode which I understand are supposed to stay effective for longer?
Has anyone fitted new plugs to the M62/4.4 Litre engine recently; if so, what did you use?
I know it may be a little OTT to change this early but am interested to hear opinions....

Hi James. Having used large two stroke outboards for many years good plugs are important and i don't skimp 17 quid each .On my last Mog service the plugs looked like new so i stuck them back in, those four post electrode's sound good or is it just hype. Our glorious V8s will sound good whatever you use and you wont notice any difference.
Em same car not so shiney

Speaking from a position of spark plug ignorance...……..
All I can suggest with the four post plugs, is that obviously the spark can only jump to one? (Is this obvious?), so I'm thinking that it will take the shortest route until that erodes, when it will then take the next electrode with the shortest route. So arguably extending life considerably?
My Roadster plugs have single electrodes with a pointy end (technical term). At around 20k miles they were immaculate, so I put them back in.

James, having swopped to Iridium in the last few years on various cars I won't go back to normal spec
I swopped out some Iridium a couple of years ago at 40k plus miles, absolutely no erosion, & gap was still to OE spec
If I can get them I prefer NGK, with Bosch as second choice
Don't forget, if you 'extend' or ignore plug swops & the gap gets too wide you can bu66er up your coil packs

I think I'd fit whatever BMW advise: the originals are, I believe, some sort of special metal plug tip. BMW say they are good for 100,000km = 60,000 miles. Given the price and the need to remove the wings it isn't something that needs to be rushed into! Found this on the web... https://www.bimmerworld.com/Engine/Ignition/NGK-Spark-Plugs-BKR6EQUP-12-12-0-037-607.htmlPlatinum tipped.

thanks for the advice chaps From what I can deduce from the NGK web site, they recommend two types of plug for the Aero 8. The BKR6EQUP is an Iridium plug with 4 electrodes and is good for 80 - 100 K miles (as per your link Peter). As an upgrade, they recommend the BKR6EIX which is an Iridium IX plug. This is supposed to offer better performance (?) but is 'only' good for 40 - 50 K miles. I think this has a single electrode (but can't be sure) - but it would perhaps explain the shorter life..... If the upgrade is seriously 'better' then it may be worth fitting as 40/50 K miles is still a decent life. Decisions, decisions..... James

Hi James,
I replaced mine with the original fitment items which Morgan supplied, I found that finding uprated ones (like oils - hence the guide I wrote!) was a rabbit-hole I couldn't be bothered to go down at the time! Although revisiting it might be worthwhile..
The plugs looked like they had never been changed, so even at 30k miles it was worth doing as they were quite grubby.
Let me know what you decide to go with. Nick
