I seem to remember the close towns of Cleckheaton, Heckmondwike and Liversedge in Yorks. being 'shortened' humorously to Cleckheckmondsedge in conversation.
I'm up in North Norfolk at the moment and there are certainly distinct ways of pronouncing place names here - Hunstanton / 'Hunston'; Happisburgh / 'Hazeborough' etc.

I remember someone telling me to meet them at their house in "mul-guy" and giving me the road name/no. I spent hours looking for it on the map. When I finally gave in and phoned him all I could hear was laughing. I got my own back later.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Satnavs come up with some hilarious pronunciations of Welsh roads and places.
Gelli On was pronounced Jelly On. It is a road in Llanelli. You need to know the ”ll “pronunciation for it to work though.
The Welsh alphabet has several differences and omissions.
