supporting each other?
On my route to the gym there is a village where sometimes they put a scamera van, just as you come out of NSL round a bend and immediately into a 30 limit. There was one there yesterday and as I approached I got a flash from another car coming the opposite way. But no flash from maybe 6 other cars.
Coming back home from the gym the van was still there and I didnt get a warning flash from any of maybe another 6 cars and vans.
So whats happening? Has my local area been annexed by members of Brake? Are all daytime cars driven by old ladies? If we dont support each other then the forces of officialdom will win

I believe that people have been prosecuted for warning other motorists of the presence of a camera van. This simply reinforces the idea that these vans are nothing to do with safety (people who are warned generally slow down, so the safety objective is achieved) but that they are simply revenue gatherers.

We had a convoy of about ten cars last year going to precott all driving within the speed limit but i felt compelled to pull up right behind a parked scammer van and check that everyone was ok,picture the scene we had lots of lights and thumbs up. Probably wasted 10 mins of his film and perfectly legal...

The drivers years ago used to give 2 flashes and a thumbs down as a warning . Now they have not a clue . But the older wagon drivers pick it up straight away.

They are all using Waze and knew in advance.
I agree with the issue, on the B3400 into our town there are often pedestrians and bikes (and often cows) on the narrow twisty bits where there are no paths. I try and give a single flash warning but often don't see the brake lights go on. Not only has the gift to give failed but also the skill of receipt.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

In the early days of motoring speed traps we're common. AA patrol officers used to salute passing members (remember that?) But if one failed to salute the member was supposed to stop and ask why--and would be warned of a trap ahead.

Serious bikers seem to be the best for discreet slowing down hand signals.

Flashing headlights can be a very misleading signal and as a generalisation, I don't flash at all.
Accidents have been caused by drivers misinterpreting flashes as a signal that they can pull out and another driver could have seen your friendly slowdown flash and thought it was for them.
Could anyone be that stupid, I hear you ask?
Surely not with the very high standard of drivers we have on the roads these days.

I`m afraid that I would not flash to warn other road users - the old sign used to be to tug at the back of your collar to warn that you may have your collar felt. However, I think that I am the odd one out here, in that I approve of speed cameras as speed limits generally are there for a reason and anyone caught exceeding these limits have only themselves to blame. We all make mistakes from time to time - but surely we should be mature enough to hold up our hands and admit fault - even if it is that of not being vigilant enough to spot a speed-limit sign. I have had several close calls as a driver and pedestrian with drivers who think that the rules of the road only apply to others and not them. I enjoy driving fast and pushing the limits of my Mog - but do it on a track or sprint taster day - expensive- yes - but probably cheaper than a fine or living with the guilt of having damaged someone. I was told when I learned to drive that a truly skilled driver is one who knows and adheres to the rules of the road and have held to that principle for the last fifty years or so, priding myself on a full, clean licence.
I await the subsequent abuse!
