Does this count? In my defense, this was a compromise when I needed a vehicle in high school. (I really wanted a little red Triumph Tiger; Bill Fink the Norton driver said no way.) Nobody is going to beat that 70s pic of Rodger - positively meow worthy (literally!)

The FJ really a bike a head of its time and still looks well today, it reminds me of the BMW 840/850 you could stand it next to anything modern and it will hold its own.

We had her 17 years. I thought that was a BIG motorcycle. It was a CB360T

I sold all my bikes when I bought my M3W, well the BMW R90/6, R100S, and Kawa KE250 at least. Kept my old '72 Suzuki TS185 - too many memories with it. I just didn't enjoy road riding around here any more. Too many distracted drivers, too many cars and trucks, and too many deer hits. I can deal with self-inflicted risk, but when an unfortunate guy met his demise right down the road - direct deer hit at highway speed - I hung it up.
Not sure the M3W would fair a whole lot better, but the perception is there at least :-)
The urge is still there, and I still love them, but have to make some life choices sometimes I guess.

Show me your bikes and tempt me please.
This was my last ever bike.  It is gorgeous to behold, wonderful to ride: it corners like a modern bike. I miss it, but I couldn't bring myself to leave as a work of art... All the gear has been sold, After 51 years I'm an ex biker. I gave up because I wasn't enjoying riding anymore. Why wasn't I enjoying it? A lot of little things, may have been mentioned here in this thread, but in the end I felt just too exposed and vulnerable.

The new Thruxton is such a gorgeous looking bike  I feel your pain Peter. I gave up motorcycling about 20 years ago when a close friend died after a fairly minor motorcycle accident. He had just turned 50, had been a biker from the age of 17, and was a very safe rider. He left 4 kids aged between 6 and 18 years old and a widow who was convalescing from her first battle with cancer. Even though what really killed him was medical misadventure (he died 3 weeks after the accident of a coronary thrombosis after being taken out of intensive care too soon) the whole business really shook me, and I agreed with my wife that I'd pack motorcycles in until our girls were off the payroll. I was allowed to buy a sports car (a TVR as it happens) as a consolation prize. Now that the kids have flown the nest, although bikes make me wistful and misty eyed, mindful of modern road conditions, sadly I don't think I'll be taking it up again.

I was never a motorcyclist - well I guess my scooter days can't possibly count - but that is a truly stunning bike and what I would have aspired to if I had stayed on two wheels. It must have been hard to part with but I can understand your concerns on today's roads.
