that I should have a support across the middle of the car when the hood isn't up I introduced a useful little tweak to my arrangement last year. I bought a few metres of 4mm shock cord from a camping/outdoor shop (Actually it was the hiking section of the Green Welly in Tyndrum). Tie a couple of loops in it, then hook it over the centre windscreen wiper mount, over the windscreen and back the rear of the car where it loops over the spare wheel T bar. No need for a high tension, it's enough to stop rain turning the cockpit area of the cover into a bucket. Me too

When touring in a hire car in Northern Spain mid summer many years ago we encountered a severe thunderstorm and pulled over until it past. Several others followed as it was impossible to drive in the huge hailstones followed by torrential rain. Even so I was surprised when we saw the car parked in front had its windscreen smashed  I think it's fair to say that none of the vestigial storm covers in the collection above would have functioned adequately in such conditions. My only thought is their light weight and compact stowage is attractive when touring long distance. Surely just putting the hood up would be better (and quicker) though

Surely just putting the hood up would be better (and quicker) though All down to personal preference I guess. I have a 3-zip tonneau cover in place when I'm touring so to put the hood up I have to first remove the tonneau cover and stow it before putting the hood up, which is a bit of a faff compared to putting the storm cover on - plus the hood doesn't stop rain getting into the engine bay. On the topic of encountering thunderstorms, I always carry a golfing umbrella, then you can just park up for 20 minutes and wait for it to pass. That's me in the car in front.

The storm cover is an excellent solution. I never leave home without mine.   the cover kept the tonneau dry even at those conditions

It was a tin top hire car Tom so coped fine but we did have some shelter from a tree. No doubt thin aluminium without protection would have been damaged though. Have first hand experience of what can happen to a light plane flying through a mature thunderstorm at 150 mph

Storm covers are de rigeur when touring  I recognise that car park!  Like your tweak too, Tim.

I'm awaiting the delivery of a Plus 4 and look at this thread with interest. My initial thoughts were to use a full stormforce 4 layer in the garage and a morganhoods cockpit cover when out and about.
It seems most opinions are the cockpit cover is not sufficient and a storm cover offers greater protection of the engine bay. However there is some notes regarding possible paint damage on windy days - I see a lot of those.
My considerations were size and ease of use, has anybody any thoughts on the Morgan MMC Storm cover, it seems to not have the straps around the lights, is there any issues with the straps and chaffing? Anybody own a MMC cover that could comment on it's performance.
Just need to finalise my short term cover solutions if anyone can help.

Just need to finalise my short term cover solutions if anyone can help. The other way around surely unless you have a very leaky garage  In any case would generally avoid MMC accessories where there is a more competitively priced third party source, which is usually the case.

You're correct of course Richard in any normal situation, the idea of the garage cover is to offer some protection as my wife and folks stumble through the garage looking for tools in my absence. I had a beautiful Pagoda and DB7 VV both with scuffs so I cover everything in layers now when I'm away.
The MMC cover just seems to offer a good 'fit' but that is in their photo so advice from an owner would be good - very much appreciate you comments.
