On my 95 Plus 8 the screws are UNC, and on my 2007 Plus 4 they are metric. No doubt there was a transition year or two somewhere between those years

I think for a while the threads were different front to rear.
I changed my rears for the bigger lenses in 2008 and had to change the top hat fittings on the rear units.

UPDATE!
The screws are NOT M3!
I got hold of an M3 nut and bolt and the screws that hold the "glass" to the light will not go into the M3 nut.
A bit of web searching and I have discovered the thread is 6-32 UNC 32 t.p.i. and 32mm (1 1/4 in) long.
What chance of finding that as an A2 Stainless cap head Allen drive screw?

Bloody hell £18! My local garden machinery is brilliant for odd nuts, bolts, and grease nipples. I just replaced the rear brake adjusters on mine which were supplied to me without nuts. I got four 1/4" unf nuts off them for 52p. A quick Google for Salisbury reveals: https://www.salisburygardenmachinery.co.uk/service-parts This looks pretty similar to the place I use in Worcester. Might be worth a call in future.

Indeed it does! I managed to drill off the head of the screw without damaging the plastic lens....  Discovered some clever person had started the screw cross threaded. But with it all apart I was able to re-cut the thread from the back, un damaged side of the brass top hat using a good screw. Now all I need is a new screw! well done for sorting this Peter  When I replaced my lenses (for clear) , I managed to source some Allen head , Stainless screws to replace the chromed steel (?) originals as I have found these can (and do ) rust quite quickly. James It seems that the most recent Lucas lights using the L794 cover use these non metric threaded screws. Tarka was built in late 2013, so it seems earlier cars may have different fittings. Holden sell the original screws, but I like the look of pan head Allen screws!! https://www.holden.co.uk/p/lucas_l794_type_lamp_lens_retaining_screwThey are also cheaper!! One set "sold", three left!

just so you (or I !) don't think I'm going doolally, pictures below of the M3 x 35, S/S bolts fitted to my clear lenses -    It may be that, as suggested, there are different metric/UNC versions in use ? I also wondered, given how soft the brass 'top hat' fitting is, whether the new metric bolts cut their own thread....? 'tis a mystery......  James

James, do your clear rear reflectors show red when illuminated by following headlights ?, as they do look neat

If you are ever searching for difficult or unknown nuts/bolts/screws then I can highly recommend Hampshire Bolt & Tool in Basingstoke. I think they have other locations as well. http://www.basingstokeboltandtool.co.uk/I take a difficult screw in and they match it for thread and other bits and then provide pretty much anything from stock. There is a trade counter you can walk into. Very helpful.

James, do your clear rear reflectors show red when illuminated by following headlights ?, as they do look neat 'afraid not Jon - but I do carry red ones which I can switch over and the Led's are very bright. Not to everyone's choice I know.... James
