The news of the Plus 6 in Geneva has finally made me realise what the plan is with Morgan.

• This new car (whilst nice looking) as far as I see, is a sign that the Morgan Company no-longer care about the majority of the owners of their cars but rather the 1%.

• The starting price of the Plus 6 at circa £80k is an insult and don’t get me started on the “extras” included on the first editions for 10k which seem to mainly be some extra stitching and colourful items with a hardtop.

• The Roadster has been seemingly abandoned as a 6-cylinder oddity in the range – how long will it last until Morgan kill it?

• The Plus 4 110 Works edition which starts from £65k (£15k on top of last year’s club sport!), seems to mainly consist of the engine performance components of the Clubsport on a standard 110-year car, how generous of Morgan to give us the option of a radio CD!

• It is clear to me that Morgan have totally forgotten their beginnings, other than the look of the cars, and are now catering to the 1%.

• The year on year price rises (8% in 2016!) show that Morgan is now run for the shareholders and not for the average enthusiasts, the latest news that the family have sold out and the firm is now majority owned by InvestIndustrial just confirms this to me.

• The classic range of cars are now overpriced beyond belief, at least the 110-year options at least make them slightly better value, but the underpinnings are now, far beyond, in desperate need of updating.

I am now looking at sale options.

Progress . Morgan is a business to make profit. I'm not convinced by selling out to venture capital bods but the Plus6 looks impressive and will appeal to many that are able to afford it. Yes its costly but Morgans haven't been cheap or good value for years now. For sports car value see your local mazda dealer.

I can't see the trad roadster lasting long either.

Economies of scale may see the trad as we know it being killed off over the next 2 years anyway. Replaced by the plus6 chassis style I'd imagine.

Then we'll own classic Morgans.

Minis of the old classic type are still in huge demand despite the more modern BMW version, the same is likely true with Morgans going forward so I wouldn't sell up just yet.

It’s probably a good thing that the models are progressing to keep the marque viable for the future.

MMC have to focus on profitability rather than mass market affordability. I have always been happy to buy nearly new and let someone else take the 20% hit anyway.

It’s not like the looks date so we have to buy the latest updated model either.

Hi Everyone,

Since I bought my first Morgan to allow me to unbolt/bolt things instead of continuing to work on computers (I had a grand title that chairman took to be 24/7 working) I have remained fairly sane, and this has continued with subsequent purchases in retirement.

So, a rather lovely sophisticated car is of no use; I stay with what I have.

To be frank I would sooner buy 5 entry level mx5 to one high end plus 6. I think my grandchildren would be quite chuffed.

Actually, I am banned from doing any work on my car at the moment, so a value for money Mazda may yet be my future (though I hope not).

For a shear indulgence motor I'm afraid £80 to £90k is not for me

Geof

They have to focus on the 1% and new customers as 99% of Morgan owners buy a second hand Morgan and do not spend any money at MMC.

MMC is not a charity run for the benefit of the existing Morgan owners.

Have to say I agree with you.
Failure of the EV3 was blamed on Fraser Nash, the second 'partner' to be blamed for the non completion. What ever happened to the Gov GBP6m grant money for the new power train?
If they had focused on upgrading the Classic Range the cars would be a)compliant for noise et al and b) better value.

So doesn't that tell you that 99% of Morgan owners either can't afford or can't justify the expense of a new Morgan?

That is an exaggeration but there is some truth in it.

The writing was on the wall, so a sale of MMC comes as no surprise. Management was not interested in customer loyalty and the quality control issues have been frustrating to say the least. To be an owner of the M3W requires the patience of Jobe or a home degree in mechanics akin to that of Phil Bleazy. Second hand values will inevitably increase apace. A straight six BMW power plant sounds exciting but I already have three points on my licence!

RBW - You sound as though you were not entirely happy with your Plus 4 from the outset - Why sell up now when the journey has only just begun!

I often wonder if some Indian side road manufacturer could not pick up the traces exemplified by the Royal Enfield Bullet story, and become the supplier of bespoke machines to the nostalgia driven motor enthusiast. The Bangalador 4/4 or the Tata3W.....
Some say: when the Ravens depart from the Tower of London, the UK will be done for. Perhaps that might also apply to the Motor Manufacturer at Malvern.

Is the new chassis going to be used for the smaller engines thereby ending the trad chassis , if so when ?

But isn't affordability always a problem with desirable items.
