I would say that the current M3W's are pretty well sorted from new, although some more issues may have been introduced with the Euro 4. I did not use my 2013 car for any long touring trips for the first 3 years because of reliability concerns but I have done a few 2000 mile plus trips since without any problems. My first continental trip was to Laon when we met at Dover Lowebird. I think good maintenance and seeing what potential problems and solutions need sorting by monitoring TM are the key to reliability. I don't think the M3W will ever be "Toyota" reliable and I wouldn't really want it to be like that. I like that it needs a bit of care and attention, all part of the experience I suppose.

I read through this forum before becoming an owner, and from what I could see reports of on the road issues have been relatively few - fuel pump failures, stock battery/poor starting, and that's about it. Surprisingly, I do not recall anyone claiming a puncture. There are still niggles such as fuel gauge and speedo inaccuracy and some noisy bevel boxes, but most of the serious concerns have been voiced by the early adopters. The most significant problem I have seen is chassis cracks and weld weaknesses.

how about cracks in the fuel tank fill neck where it welds to the tank? That seems serious to a prospective buyer and considering that the tank needs to be removed it is not trivial..

What years this happened I am not sure but the people who have noticed it seem to have newer machines.

That’s to everybody. I will go well armed with a list on next weeks search for my ideal 3 .. I ll post the results if I am successful. I will try the photo thing again. Mmmmmm!
