saw this thread through a link.... some great ideas on doing it yourself, and a heck of a lot cheaper

Since this thread was started several years ago my rear mudguard fitment has developed. It's much more rigid and closer fitting than the original and is mounted to the swing arm using the axle adjusters. The alloy straps stop the plastic mudguard flexing and rubbing on the tyre or surrounding structure.

great stuff, I like the extra bracing, after the oil cooler... maybe my next project, unless my ADHD reminds me I was rebuilding my 1978 Goldwing.... oh look, a squirrel

I've thought of mounting a standard, rubber flap to hang several inches from the rear of the OE guard. I'm rather OCD myself and dislike the crud that can still accumulate on the framing behind it.

For the last 5 years I had it mounted to the frame at the rear but the tyre finally wore through it so now I made ups some brackets out of 15mm copper tube and mounted it to the swing arm.
I used the aluminium "crud catcher" as a template to cut the plastic mudguard down so it protrudes well below the swing arm at the front using the existing bolts and extending the rear with a rubber mud flap.
Rivnuts were used on the swing arm and rubber rivnuts on the mudguard.
All seem fine up to press.
I would add some photos if I knew how.
