I like usuing the train and you have calmed my worry with the ramp.
I've done Route Napolian many times coming home, seeing while going South this time will make a nice change of perspective :-)

Today arrived in Nice having driven the Tarn gorge yesterday and the Gorge de Verdun today. If the weather had been better Tarn would have been beautiful with the hood down, Uzes was worth a day to look around and the trip via Pont du Gard and Gorge de Verdun was great driving with twists, turns and changes in camber to keep you on your toes. You should try it on your way down
