I'd heard that. Posted in Autocar? Guess they won't be selling too many for the autobahn cruisers...
I read somewhere that the German autobahns will possibly lose their derestrictions...the Greens making noises. Once that’s gone, just what is the point of anything over 100moh....apart from on a race track?
I see Volvo have announced that all their cars will have top speed limited to 112 mph within the next couple of years.
I'm surprised, that is 180 km/h. 200 km/h would be 125 mph (aprox) and would seem more reasonable, and more than enough. 150 km/h is not an unreasonable cruising speed and and you would need some reserve.
The laws actually exist to allow a limit of 150 km/h in Italy though it has not been applied to any Autostrada. It could be permitted on a three lane Autostrada with a breakdown lane if requested by the Autostrada authority.

Not a lot of point now. Some sections of road in Germany and the Northern Territory of Australia are about all that is left with no speed limits. Other than under controlled conditions or brief periods on a completely deserted highway more than about 150 km/h is not really justified IMHO.
I tend to agree, 112 or 115 mph is fast enough on the public road. I have driven at 155mph on the German Autobahn, but it is something that requires practice to achieve relatively safety.
So, in the performance car market all that will happen is that "performance" car makers will use the excess power to achieve even more unusable 0-100kph times. Electric cars, perversely, already support this trend of limited top speed, but unlimited acceleration.
When I was a lad a performance car was one that broke 0-60mph in 10 seconds. Now it is 5 seconds. Where will it end?
