Apparently it's a x-wedge S&S's own engine design 56' versus 45' of a Harley.

Might be 1900cc....

Wanted a Harley and a bit nervous about the first year comment.

Why are you nervous about the first-year comment, and more importantly, why would you want a H-D instead of the S&S engine?

From what I can tell (I don't know much, though), the S&S is the better engine.

Edit: On second thought, perhaps an HD engine would be the better choice for my own intended use. doh

Someone said in one of the other threads that HD doesn't sell their engines to other manufacturers. Perhaps that's the deal: Morgan thought they did, and then they "had to" choose something else?

Or perhaps they found out that the S&S delivered more power/torque?

Perhaps it simply means you will be able to choose another of SS Cycle's engines. More power, less power, different setup aimed at touring or race track or something.

As you can see, I'm with you on the speculation part. The engine choice in "the first year" was something I took notice of as well.

The S&S is probably more reliable... hide

I don't think I'll let that dictate much. Because in the end, the waiting list is already long, and if I wait another year before placing an order it will take way too long to get one.

But all else equal (torque, stability, vibration etc.) I'd prefer a H-D engine for the very reason that I'm buying it to be used for touring, and it would be easier to find spare parts for the H-D engine while out and about.

To further confuse matters, S&S are an excellent company with a good reputation and their engine may turn out to be better than the HD. Vibration would still concern me though. Why not ask Morgan these questions ?

I agree. Someone with the inside track should ask them.

I would be much much happier with the S&S iso the HD engine. (I might even want one now)
I think the X-wedge is a much better engine (bearings/cooling/crackshaft etc) and gets good reviews; This is e.g. what Alan Cathcart notworthy said in Motor cyclist; "Despite lacking a counterbalancer, the 95-horsepower X-Wedge motor is satisfactorily smooth all the way across the rev range. It's very refined in terms of operation, too, starting, idling and injecting without any issues to speak of."

Opening up the V-angle, the one piece crankshaft and changing to journal bearings is probably much better than having counter balancers in a 45 degree HD big twin. And I guess there will be a much heavier fly-wheel and clutch assembly (mazda?) in the 3-wlr compared to a motorbike, also reduces vibration. Plus, the counterbalanced HD engines also vibrates at cruising speed, they are stil pretty agricultural machines. With any big twin, expect to have to tighten some bolts now and then. But the big twin rumble & vibes will be part of the magic of driving the 3 wlr as it is with big twin motorcycles.
If you still want a HD engined 3-wlr, look at this; hide
cyclecar
Apparantly been made in the US for the last 15 yrs or so under Morgan license. It has the Evo-B motor (balanced), weighs 950lbs, does 120mph, costs 48k US.

Until recently, the ACE wasn't "licensed". Only after Morgan themselves decided to make their modernised version was the Cycle Car licensed. I've even read arguments to the effect of Morgan "copying" the ACE reproduction car.
