Hi Wizards, Have just bought a Plus 4, 2015, 4500 miles. Have read somewhere that the standard s/absorbers are poor. Certainly the ride is bumpy and not as good as my MGB. Whats the most practical way to improve it. Adjustable shocks or what. Anyone advise. Many thanks David

Bad news I'm afraid David. An MGB has proper suspension and a Morgan doesn't. Nick

I felt the same way David when I moved from MGB to A 4/4. You can do a bit to improve things, Suplex front end, adjustables at the rear. The rear can benefit from a panhard rod as well. You could go down the expensive route of five link rear suspension which I ended up doing...it makes a difference. Not sure you will ever get it to the “modern” standards of an MGB though! Getting your tyre pressures right also helps.

Hi David,
when it comes to comfort, I'd install adjustable shock absorbers. The cost are reasonable and the gain in comfort is great. I have had 4 adjustable Spax fitted to my Plus 4 and have driven about 1300 km since they were fitted. No comparison to before! I haven't found the perfect setting yet, but I prefer a soft setting (start with the softest setting and adjust gradually towards harder). Good luck!

Certainly my Roadster has a far better ride than my MGBV8 ever had. I have AVO's on my Roadster, but my Plus 4 on standard dampers, like Perry said, has a good ride. Mileage is 6,500 approx.

My 4/4 was bumpy at first but had settled down well after around 4-5000 miles.
Might be worth checking your tyre pressures - and experimenting with a few psi either side of the 21 recommended.
I have since upgraded the front springs ( heavier duty ) and swapped the shocks for Avos in addition to a panard rod and reaction bars - the car rides and handles much better as a result. The shocks are adjustable which should help you find the stiffness that suits you/your car.
Having said that I'm not sure the standard shocks give a poor ride - might be worth getting a passenger run in someone elses car to compare?

Hi, I've just had my 4/4 suspension upgraded with the full Rutherford / AVO system from Tim Ayres at New Elms. Its made such a huge improvement in the ride of my car. You could speak to Tim, let him know your thoughts and ask his opinion. https://www.newelms.com/rutherford-parts/

I had stiffer rebound springs on my 4/4 - made a huge difference for not much outlay - 4 seater leafsprings on the rear have also improved the ride. You may also have a word with Cain at Wolf performance.

Many thanks David David, looking at the mileage covered by the previous owner it's spent a lot of time stood & needs some miles putting on it Before you jump and alter things, give all the grease points a top up, spray the rear springs with motorbike chain lube, check the tyres are not over inflated, and the top bolt on the front shocker is often way too tight (you should just be able to turn the rubbers with hand force. Go for another drive and enjoy
