The Exide AGM 12-31 (4990) seems to be a good choice with 430CCA.

Exide AGM 12-31 (4990) is not a good number in the USA. Maybe good in England or EU. Local Exide distributor took a couple of hours on the phone with the Regional Exide warehouse and they came up with Exide Supercrank Xtra 450 CCA. Numbers on Barcode Tag are: SC30LFA and 0 80824 10883 0.

They had one in stock because it fits the late model Harley Police Special motorcycles and they stock them for the city police department. Cost $129.00 + sales tax.

Sorry I didn't get back sooner but the weather finally dried enough here to get through the mud to the road and I've been riding. Got to fix that accursed mud hole.

Just make sure the dimensions are not larger than the UK Exide as that fits the battery tray perfectly.

Length 165 mm
Width 130 mm
Height inc. terms 175 mm

It's a little bit shorter but fits the box well if you are careful when you center it up on the tray. Also, slightly taller but the stock hold downs still work.

mine is not a MC battery at all, a small car battery, but not one that would fit my HD at all.... too darn cold to step through the breezeway to the garage to check this late at night (40f and falling an me in the PJ's).

Thanks all, as suggested, the battery tender didn't keep the charge like i thought it would. I guess it's often the simplest solution, shouldn't overthink things...

Sooo... still having troubles. Battery wouldn't hold charge, opened it up and was indeed really low on water. So I'm guessing the trickle charger helped with that, Refilled it with distilled, jumped, and drove for a bit. Parked, wouldn't start again, even with jumper.

I'm now guessing i need to replace battery as per other suggestions above. not having luck finding the exile here in the US, and EarthX have added the following note for the ETX36D:

"If you have a high compression V-Twin S&S engine greater than 110ci , you may exceed 680 cranking amps and will exceed our ETX36’s capabilities. The ETX36 series is limited to 680 max cranking amps."

My understanding is the Morgan S&S is 117 CI. Has anyone had issues using the EarthX?

Pulse cranking amps is for all intent and purpose hot cranking amps, available for the the short time it (should) take to start the car. Although it doesn't have an official definition it's more akin to everyday use than CCA.

I still maintain amp hour battery capacity is the more important parameter as it's that which errodes with battery ageing. Better to have spare capacity therefore for longevity, as without an adequate amount the average Mog used lightly over the winter won't start if there is not enough to support the required cranking amps.
