I find this attitude really sad Particularly as some of us Aero owners do love the trads too. I'm more a lurker than a contributor on here because you are all so knowledgeable compared to me! But of the people I have met & chatted to, everyone has been incredibly friendly & welcoming and I never realised there was a split between some of the trad and Aero owners

I'm hopefully going to buy myself a traditional later in the year (just don't tell the OH!!). Does this mean that I won't be permitted to talk to anyone?

Dave makes the valid point that many car communities seem to have small groups within them that hold a torch for a particular model, or production period, and often look down their noses at any outside of that group. For instance, within the Porsche fraternity you do get owners who are very pro aircooled and deny the modern cars (post-993) are real 911s. This same group are disdainfully known as 'beards' by other owners as they'd rather sit around and discuss widgets, originality and twiddle their beards than drive their cars. Neither, imho, are correct but again, it is an example of a small minority wishing to cause divisions within the larger group.

As Andy mentioned, he and I overheard some very snotty and rude comments about John's Aero at LMC; we also engaged in some lively debate with other Aero-dislikers (but this was more good natured but definitely started from the same position - ie Aero = bad = not a REAL Morgan!

HOWEVER, for every 1 of those, there were 99 other Morgan owners and enthusiasts who embraced all the M-winged badged cars the same; exuding the level of camaraderie, good natured conversation and sense of community that Morgan owners are known for.

This made me think of a few VSCC chaps shouting "Morgan proper car" and jumping up and down very enthusiastically in Arnage during last year's Classic Le Mans whilst in the Aero. I was surprised because of course it's not really is it? They were doing the same for other "worthy" cars, including some proper chain turn of the century ones. It must have been the beer, or because it was very hot that year! Likewise it's in the eye of the beholder.

I came from a Classic Jaguar into an aero and found the response to the car overwhelming and the vast majority of the owners I have met have been wonderful people, and far more accepting than some of the elitist Jaguar community. This more than offset the occasional small minder person you encounter along the way. But hey life's not perfect.

Having read this thread though I'm just wondering what will happen to new 3 wheeler owners in the wider Morgan Community. I bet the sails of strong rope will increase for the hanging parties.

Maybe its time to buy a TVR.

Honestly, if some traditionalists feel that it isn't a "real Morgan" when I come roaring in the new three wheeler, so be it. To me it isn't so much about the tech as it is about the experience. If they feel that my choice is an affront to their feddling, they need another hobby to put things into perspective.

I don't have much to add to what has already been said, I used to hold Colin in high esteem for his work on Morgan's and although he may not remember, or choose not to, I had my first two Plus 8's serviced at his Morgan emporium as I mentioned in a previous post.

So presumably in those days I was 'acceptable', but have since crossed into "the type of client that Morgan's know (sic) unfortunately attract" through driving an Aero. It is interesting to note that most of the Aero owners, if not all, who have posted on this thread, have either owned a trad before their Aero's, or have a modern three-wheeler on order. They, like most of us, are died-in-the-wool Morgan enthusiasts.

When we owned a garage in England, large older BMW's were regarded in the trade as being driven by a certain class of person, and as it seems that it is acceptable to define people by what they drive, I see that Mogburner drives a BMW 750i V12 of indeterminate age - nuff said I reckon.

I think that the new three wheeler may cause the old three wheeler enthusiasts a real dilemma. There seems to be little social crossover between the trike men and the four wheeler brigade, so I wonder how this 'progress' will be received.

For me -- I think the new trike is brilliant -- I would love one, but sadly I don't have the means to own 2 Morgans(and my current one is NOT about to go!) Why, Oh why do we have to differentiate between models -- They are all Morgans for God's sake!!!

Please, please let us all embrace whatever Morgan anybody wishes to drive - personally I have so far only encountered really nice people amongst the Morgan fraternity What model they drive is totally immaterial to me.

Remember we actually bought the cars to enjoy driving them (and fiddling with them!)-- not bickering about how different they look!!!

I think the original 3 wheeler crew are both men of iron and engineering gurus in order to drive and keep the vehicles on the road. Traits that are no longer (mostly) essential for 4 wheel trads.

But on the whole I reckon the old 3 wheelers will love it because it has 3 wheels, the trad owners will love it because it looks trad, and the luxe owners will love it because it has modern underpinnings.
(All very tongue in cheek)

The potential owners will probably be 90% enthusiasts and 10% "hey this looks really cool". But I reckon that those figures apply equally to trads and the luxes. At least that's my theory as to why there are always a flurry of nearly new cars for sale as the 10% realise that Mog ownership takes commitment.

Quite - having owned both types, it is sad to read such prejudice
