Such a lovely afternoon yesterday so I took the 4/4 out for a blast around the wolds. After exiting a fast sweeping corner I ran over what looked to be a short length of hollow tube in the road. I tried to avoid it but caught one end of it which threw it up against the underside of the Mog with a bang before it clattered noisily against the stainless exhaust.
I pulled over and switched the engine off as soon as it was safe.
Looked underneath and breathed a sigh of relief that I could see no sign of damage.
On starting the engine and resuming my run I found that the engine management warning light remained on.
The car was running as before with no noticeable change or loss of power and so I headed for home.
Once home I crawled underneath as best you can on such a low car suspecting some problem with the exhaust or a wire disconnected/snapped off a lamba sensor but could find nothing amiss.
Checked oil level and can see no signs of anything leaking under the bonnet.
I have read of a switch that can be turned on and off to reset things. If there is such a swith under the bonnet where can it be found?
Do you think I am right in suspecting the exhaust sensors?
I have also heard that disconnecting and reconnecting the battery can return things to the original settings is this correct?
The Morgan is a 2014 4/4 with sigma engine and Librands sports manifold and exhaust.
Any help appreciated.

Jeepy, hopefully no damage and it's just a coincidence

Some owners have cured the engine warning light issue using the battery disconnect method, but best to leave power off overnight

Just a wild guess based on the fast sweeping corner comment wink - check brake fluid level.

Order a Bluetooth, if you have Android,or WiFi, if you have Apple,OBD3 adaptor. You can find them in Amazon. I have Android and use the app Torque Pro. With this you can find out what the error is and reset it.

It is worthwhile paying the small fee for the Pro version but the free version will still do.

I don't believe that disconnecting the battery will reset the error.

Agree with Peter,

Diconnecting the battery will not reset the error. I´ve tried it myself a few times.
I have an OBD reader that I can plug into both my Mog and my Fiat. It allows me to clear the «engine light».
My Morgan comes up with the engine light after a ride on bumpy roads. Which is the code for a V8, mine´s a four cylinder!

You can buy a OBD reader on eBay for around £15 .
Plugs in under the dash and you can read fault codes and clear them .

Jeepy....
Coincidence........
My 2002 Plus8 had light on issues. Random intermittent misfire causing it. My Maxiscan rest it. I could not find a reason....plugs, connectors etc all ok.
I tried V-Max petrol and it stopped happening.
It has only occured a couple of times over last 4 years since but only after putting standard 95 octane in.....until today!
I was down to less than halfway from zero to 1/4 so stopped at a Murco petrol station and saw they had 97 octane so put 4 gals in . Within 1/4 mile the light came on. Engine running fine. When home 4 miles later the Maxiscan showed the same fault...random intermittent misfire. Makes me wonder about the petrol in the 97 octane pump!
I would advise checking the fault with an obd reader/reset tool.
From what you described it could be the pipe you hit has disturbed/damaged a sensor. An OBD tool should narrow it down.
As the engine was running ok it is unlikely to be a crtical sensor.

Thanks guys for all the input.
Sospan I had filled up with fuel in the morning of the previous day from my usual pump and had used a quarter of the tank with no problem.
I am thinking that it is more than a coincidence that the light came on shortly after the object in the road hit the exhaust.
Arranged to have the problem code read tomorrow until then I will not use the car even though I suspect it is not something more serious.
At the same time I can get it on the ramp and have a proper look underneath for damage.

Worth putting a reader on it.... the management light could be a gazillion things. I had a microscopic leak in my petrol tank which caused a warning light.

If the tube hit the exhaust system, could it have bounced the oxygen/LAMDA sensors around a bit?
