G'day Morganeers,
today I found out that all new car registrations in the state of Victoria in sunny and very wet Australia now have to have Electronic Stability Control (ESC)from the first of January 2011.
No doubt all the other states will follow like lambs to the slaughter. ESC controls the sideways movement of a vehicle and when combined with ABS and traction control gives the driver a better degree of control to avoid loosing it totally.
I post this little gem of information up because yet again, bureaucracy is making decisions for us poor drivers. The majority of manufactures over here now include that as standard, (I did a check up)

http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/Home/Safe...lityControl.htm

but it is surprising how many dont at this point in time!
this is the $100 question.... does Morgan in their eternal wisdom include this with every car now manufactured?
Perhaps they should be informed of this NEW and potentially export numbing development???

It is a worry because the main dealer in Australia is

http://www.morgancars.com.au/ and Chris the owner and his company are in Victoria....

Charles if you are reading this, go and check with your number one swmbo

I wonder, cos if they dont they probably cant export to Ozz in the near future and that is a devastating blow for old ex-pats like my self , who might in a moment of madness want to update their ageing chariots of fire?
over and out oldgit

It'll probably be in Europe in a couple of years Peter, but will only apply to new models?

Be cheaper and more sensible just to teach people how to drive, rather than how to pass a test...

Cheers,

Graham, you have come up with the explanation as to why it wasn't necessary to pass the test in Ireland to be allowed to drive on your own. Better to know how to drive than to pass a test....mind you I am not sure if this always worked out in practice. Of course the bureaucrats have now caught up with this aberration.

Isn't the careful positioning of the 12 volt battery within the chassis of the Morgan, and balancing of weight on the front and rear wheels Morgan's form of ESC - Electronic Stability Control?

A number of cars have been granted an exemption in Victoria from this ruling on the premise that the replacement models will get ESC. The list is not inspiring though:
Great Wall X200
Holden Barina
Kia Rio
Nissan Tiida
Nissan Patrol
Proton S16
Proton Persona/Gen 2
Toyota Yaris

The full list is on the VicRoads Website. No mention on this of Morgans.
