Howdy

In the few days of ownership...I've encountered a rather annoying issue. With the hood down and the tonneau in place covering the hood itself...and with the "surplus tonneau material" tucked into the "boot space"...we're finding that the seat belt operation is hampered. i.e. It prevents free movement of the belt inertia as it drags on the tonneau material.

I guess were doing something wrong here and its a basic newbie thing...but is there a technique to tucking in the "surplus tonneau?

(My terminology is no doubt all wrong here...but hopefully someone can make sense of my issue?)

It seems to be a common problem with the easy up mohair equipment. It helped on mine to add an extra press stud for the tonneau on both sides closer to the doors. Not perfect but pulls the tonneau tighter and with careful folding keeps it off the belts. Sorry if it's a bit vague, hard to explain.

Makes perfect sense Ray. Ours is a Vinyl hood so don't know if that makes a difference?

Is there a folding technique to keep the material clear of the belt mechanism?

Mine does it too, Mac. I try and tuck as much hood excess away in that area as I can once its folded but still the belt has some contact with the hood.

A combination of weak return spring, the belt touching the hood and then having to go at an angle to the loop on the seat and then over makes for a poor belt return.

Id rather not have my face make contact with an aluminium wheel in a prang so will be addressing this at some stage. I wonder if the belt spring can be wound tighter ? anyone ?

There is a folding technique that DaveW has shown us with photos....I’m sure he will be along later to remind us 🤓.

It is annoying though and I ended up resorting to the three zip mod to my tonneau cover which made it easier to tuck everything away.

So if its a bit of a design issue...has anyone rigged up anything that might support the surplus tonneau material, lifting it clear of the route of the seat belt and preventing the drag issue?

When you fold the toneau cover pul it back over the back of the car and fold in the sides to make a triangle with the point towards the rear. You then roll the cover and tuck it behind the seat.

The best thing is to have two extra zips fitted to the toneau cover. The side sections can then be tucked behind the seats and the centre section folded and rolled as described above. That does a better job of leaving the seat belt run more free.

I thought I had posted some photos when the job was done but I can't find them at the moment.

You do see it folded and tucked away in the photo below. I will get some more photos and post them on the weekend.

Thanks Peter. Not quite following that (Its me...not you!) Its the material tucked behind the seats that gets in the way. I'm probably being a bit slow on the uptake here...so any pictures would be good.

Hi Perry.

No, ours is a two piece. With the zip in the middle it creates a V-shape under which the surplus material needs to tuck...and this causes the seat belt to drag.

I probably need to play about with it a bit, to see if I can find a knack of folding it under to avoid fouling the free movement of the seat belts.
