I fitted them to our 1985 4/4. When we came to specify our current car, they did not even make the short list of extras. Spent more time trying to avoid cracking them with the side screens.

Their primary value, IMHO, is that they stop the side screens moving away from the screen pillars at speed in the rain. We had the Heart of England ones -not the posh ones that fold inside when the roof is up.

I decided to keep the sidescreens on permanently after a bird strike. I was cruising at about 70-80mph. The bird, travelling from left to right, struck the windscreen immediately ahead of my face. The impact sounded like a stone. The incident made me think of the unfortunate Alan Stacey at Spa in 1960...

I have the Simmonds ones with the glass and the chrome frame which came with the car and fitted by Williams when the car was new in 2008

I also fitted the acrylic ones on my last Mog

I think they make a tiny bit of difference and they seem to make a bigger difference when I have the hood up and no side screens

Getting the right angle is key when you are driving and I keep adjusting them but I do notice a warmer right shoulder when I get the angle of deflection right

Some bright spark should create a better design. Out of neoprene maybe. Or machine turned ali? Who’ll get there first?

I just think they look cluttered and consensus of opinion as to their effectiveness on here is very mixed, so no I have never been tempted.

I don't use a hood and have no sidescreens on my +8. I do notice a positive difference when using wind deflectors. Mine are the cheap version.

I think someone has made “half sidescreens” that are perspex cut and shaped to replace the normal sidescreens and utilising the sidescreen mounts to fix.
Was it in Morganatica?

Many moons ago a study of wind flow was conducted and discussed on emog, I can't recall who carried out the study using streamers. The study concluded that the wind deflectors did very little deflecting. Due to the aerodynamics of the cockpit and the windscreen air is drawn into the back of the cockpit and from the sides. The deflectors simply push a small amount of air further out before it comes back in and increases the air flow between the deflector and the windscreen pillar. Sidescreens were far better, that's what they are there for, although of course the wind still comes into the cockpit from behind. As with all things Morgan it's a personal choice.

swmbo prefers sidescreens. I did like the look of the car with deflectors but one deflector got cracked by a sidescreen when opening the door so I finally removed both.
