Richard Thorne should be able to cover you for this short period.

Does a new car need to be inspected in Switzerland before plates are issued?
I got Morgan to send me the CoC of the car. I then paid the IVA (VAT) in Italy, presented the CoC and the receipt for the IVA to our local agency of Motorizzazione, paid the fee, and they issued the plate. With the plate number my insurer then issued the insurance, we went to the factory, fitted the plate to the car, and drove home.

My only advice is . Make sure you get it right. The Police have the power to seize the vehicle if its on the road without valid Insurance or Mot.
You might have to have shipped home.

That's ironic. I insured my TVR on UK plates with Zurich insurance in France for 3 years before they started getting stroppy about it.

Maybe ask a couple of other insurers in Geneva - perhaps try a specialist performance car insurance broker.

The first M.O.T. type inspection is at 4 years for a new car. A brand new car with a CoC (Certificate of Conformity) does not need to be inspected before the plates are issued, even if registered by a private person. All we had to do is pay the IVA (VAT) and registration fee, including the first year's vehicle tax, and the documents and plates were issued within a day or two.

Once we had the documents I gave a photocopy to our insurer and had the insurance certificate issued. A couple of days after that we were on the plane to Birmingham with all the documents and the plates.

It was about the easiest bit of Italian bureaucracy that I have ever encountered. No doubt Alis's knowledge, after running the Guzzi dealership for 30 years, helped smooth the way.

Yeah... its a conundrum. I'll check all the options that have been suggested.
I may have to get someone in the uk to insure the car for me and put me as a driver

I have just been looking at the requirements for immatricolazione in Switzerland. I had forgotten that for Switzerland customs clearance and and payment of duty is required. Also, because Switzerland is not part of the EU the CoC is not accepted and a pre-registration inspection is required.

It makes life a little more complicated.

I remember bringing a reconditioned London Taxi engine back from England to Mandello for an Italian friend. As usual I came through Switzerland as the van was empty (apart from engine). At the Swiss/Italian border the Swiss officials were baffled as to what duty to impose and kept asking where the rest of the vehicle was confused2

Had to leave engine on pallet with them to be sorted by my Italian friend the following day. Fortunately the border was not too far from Mandello.
