Ordered my third pair of Coker Excelsior Comp H from Summit Racing. I went through two pair of Avon tires real quick. Then two pair of Blockleys which were better. The Coker line is a dead ringer for the Blockley but the tire compounds last much longer. I think that Blockley's recipe might date back to the last World War...
So the Coker line is giving me two solid seasons of driving and I put on miles. I average 7,000 to 8,000 every year. Most of it on twisty winding roads that deserve speed and squeals taking corners.
What's your mileage? Who cares. Is it practical? See #1. What happens when it rains? You get wet.

I have looked at the excelsior when I need to replace and coker also has a whitewall radial in that size as well (250ish). I am curious about how many miles you get out of a set?

Greater than 15,000 miles. This car is my daily driver when the weather is good. There are other factors as well. The roads around here can be absolute crap. Frost heaves, pot holes and cracks everywhere. I spend too much time just avoiding obstacles that will seriously damage rubber. This year will be the worst for all of those. The freeze thaw cycles, snow plows and rains have left most pavement trying to revert to their natural state, gravel...

that would be comparable to what I get out of the fronts on my HD. The OEM Avon tire is really meant to sit passively on a sidecar, not steer. Currently my M#W is just under 1000 miles (arrived in December) but I have a couple of trips planned this summer. The whitewalls I saw on Coker were American Classic 475/500Rx19. I might want to "pimp it out".

Someone at Morgan Motors wrote in the owners manual that 22 lb. in the stock Avons was called for. That makes the front tires wear much faster and if feels like you're riding on flabby noodles. Increase them to 27 lb. It will handle better and the tires will wear longer.
What were they thinking?

I have seen fronts on motorcycles cup for the same reason.
Maybe they were going for "comfort"!

I believe Front fenders would not accommodate a 475 tire?

looking at the #'s
Comp H is 28.7 diameter and 3.50 wide
Excelsior stahl radial is 29.4 and 3.70
American classic is 29.80 and 3.90 (so both wider and bigger diameter - so I bet a "no-go")
The question would be if the Stahl radial would fit
I also see that Coker still has stock of the excelsior Comp V discounted to $85..... hmmmmmmmmm

Personally I ride with the Michelin Scorcher 11 specific to some Harley Davidson as VRod model. It's day and night with the original Avon. The road holding is incredible, however you have to inflate them with a low pressure, I set them to 1.1 bars On the other hand, I think that we will do little more than 5000km ... nevertheless I roll quite little because of the bad weather in the north of France

Hi guys, this is something i have been looking at for a long time. Excelsior Comp H are a competition tyre. They may not last as long as other tyres, depending on your driving style. As with most consumables, the oem tyre is just that. If you are going for a change and most will, things to consider are tyre specs. 100/90/19 tyres are mostly lightweight cruiser tyres. 110/90/19 tyres are normally heavy cruiser tyres and are better suited to the Morgan. WF 920 Dunlop Dunlop 400 x 19 victory. Excelsior comp V The WF 920 has a flatter profile than the others, there is a review on Revzilla on youtube. Any thoughts? John.
