Does anyone know what version of sump the 80's/90's plus 8s were fitted with? There's generally two types, the SD1 and the Range Rover.

As far as I know, and this is from the deep recesses of my memory, the difference is that the RR sump has the main pan central with shallow sections front and back, whereas the SD1 has the main pan to the rear with no shallow section. My MGBV8 had the sump with the shallow rear section, which allowed the exhaust to crossover into a single pipe on the nearside. My 1999 car is a shallow front sump. That is where the Librands crossover manifolds go from one side of the car to the other.

Both versions had shallow fronts to the sump.
The difference is that the SD1 sump has the smaller but deeper oil well, with a bout 50% of the sump very shallow. The Range Rover sump is about 1/4" less deep but the well is bigger, about 70% of the sumps length.
Both sumps had their "well" towards the rear.

The easiest way to tell is that the Range Rover Sump has its oil drain plug the the left hand side and the SD1 is on the right hand side.
Which do you have?
I want to get baffles in one and have both versions at the moment.

Perfect, thanks both. Looks like Morgan used the Range Rover sump then. Presumably because it has greater oil capacity but is also slightly lower profile.

Are you changing, or trying to identify what you have. The oil strainer and pick up are completely different for the SD1 and Non-SD1 versions. Likewise the SD1 has as OEM a windage tray.
