I have a Laycock OD unit attached to what I THINK (?) is a Volvo gear box and I have a few questions. I also welcome any thoughts and advice on my idea wink

I am wondering what I would need in order to adapt this OD to the MOSS box in my '67 Plus 4

- Is there a chance this flange will work or do I need another one (See photo) to the MOSS box?

- Any ideas who I could contact that may have a used mounting flange and perhaps a good used main shaft?

I'm trying to add the photo's but system will not let me and file size is under the max. Maybe it's me, if someone could email me directly perhaps you could try? pleask@shaw.ca

Thanks, Pat

You can't add photos direct since some forum changes a while ago when things ran very slow.

Sign up to www.tm-img.com and follow instructions for use here:

Or, if you already have use of a photo hosting site (that allows linking) then post photos there and link to them.

I think you may get an answer if you go to one of the Jaguar sites as Jaguar used both the Moss box and the Laycock OD unit.
Good luck.

Reg, the Moss box Jaguar used is different to that used by Morgan. Fairly certain someone has fitted a Jag box with O/D into a +4, but can't remember where I read that.
I think the biggest problem is likely to be (lack of) space around transmission tunnel...

Thanks Guys, appreciate it.

Yes there is a fellow in NZ who has done this who I have been chatting with and is very helpful. But as he did it years ago and some of the details I need to know about are a bit lost in time. But the good news is he has done it, and it's been trouble free for years now.

I wonder why more others have not done it. He said the OD does fit in the tunnel

Images are here (if this link works, thanks for the tip)

Do you mean the Jag MOSS box used different gears? (sorry, just qualifying)

I have to ask then, could one not take the guts from the Morgan MOSS box and transfer it to the Jag MOSS box? Do both box's use the same main shaft?

Do you know if the all the mounting points of both box's are the same?

Yes, a wee bit of the forward part of the tunnel has to be cut out but I'm told it's not too much.

Not just the gears.
But, I don't have the full information/details, just comments in a couple of Morgan history books that the gearbox is different.
As I don't have a car of that age it is not something I have followed up.

All I can add is that usually the OD and non-OD gearboxes have different output/3rd motion shafts, so it won't be a simple modification, especially on an old gearbox like the Moss, assuming the same rules apply.
