Another Swedish person, but one that seems to me to make more sense than Greta's emotionally driven series of assumptions and strange beliefs.
Reading her talk is more like listening to a preacher trying to sell a new faith.

It started with the industrial revolution, and lets face it, when we were boys, the atmosphere was terrible. Certainly in Yorkshire where the buildings were blackened and the dense smogs put grey rings around your nostrils, and old people died from bronchitis and pneumonia, OK the Woodbines didn't help.

But industrialization had to happen somewhere, sometime. And Volcanoes are not blameless either.

They need to progressively reduce global shipping, and commercial flying, and convince China, Russia and the USA to make changes, but nothing will happen.

I would expect China to have more CO2 emmisions than the UK... because it has a fair few more people! The per capita numbers show them above the UK but way down the list vs others like the USA...

Some truth in that. Seems like 1 cow = 1 car doing ~8000 miles. But there are 3x as many cars as cows in the UK!

I can tell you from personal experience that the pollution in India & China is phenomenal. They need to improve & fast, but of course we should continue to cut CO2 etc as well,

I've no experience of China, but New Delhi is appalling, I had to use the inhalers I normally only use when the pollen levels are bad, even so I had difficulty breathing. One of the reasons I stopped travelling.
Bangalore air quality is OK and Goa, well what pollution?

Greta Thunberg is impressive in what she says. She raises some very valid points. I have to say that I feel uncomfortable with some of what she says and I do wonder if she has been manipulated to some extent. Some of what she says is very emotive and idealistic which coming from an impressionable youngster perhaps isn’t surprising.
I don’t know enough about climate change to know what or who to believe as far as true figures for CO2 reduction etc in spite of researching on the web. I thought that the UK was doing far better than most other countries but if what she says is true...we aren’t. But it is pretty obvious that we need to reduce our emissions drastically as soon as possible if we want to protect the next generation.
God knows with the bunch who run this country who have shown us with Brexit just how inept they are, how we are going to manage this in order to have a meaningful impact by 2030 never mind 2050. And that’s only this country....what about the major polluters, China, India and the US?

So.....even if Greta Thunberg is being manipulated, naive or misinformed, it matters not. What she is doing is making people sit up and take notice. Far better than David Attenborough fronting a typical BBC documentary. I just hope she can make it to China and India although I suspect she might balk at the necessary air travel.

Peter in the winter many parts of China have SMOG as bad if not worse than Delhi. I have landed in Bejing & not been able to see the runway from the plane window.

If you do get to a clearer area you can smell the pollution before you see the smog when you travel into the next one. It is all the coal fired power stations.

Even at the Gran Canyon in 2010 there were already signs indicating that the good visibility is impaired by smog from China with arrows of global air streams.

She has Aspergers and is communicating in a foreign language, but is still more capable than I would be at communicating in Swedish.
