Spent a rainy afternoon doing a few jobs on my new plus 4. MMC have cut some corners on little things like nuts and bolts with no washers and a cheap plumbing elbow to connect the crankcase breather pipe to the throttle body, with next to nothing for the hose clip to hold onto, so made a decent elbow up. I particularly dont like pipework hanging on cable ties so made some brackets with P clips.small jobs but satisfying to fix. Put some leather on the bonnet rub points and put a pair of DaveW's spring gaiters on. Now waiting for the monsoon to stop.

You were unlucky with the weather. While it got very cloudy here at times, I didn't see any rain.
Still, a good opportunity for some time in the garage...

Plus cheap mild steel screws that rust, undermentioned mild steel wood screws in some places, etc.

Stainless doesn't cost so much these days but every cent saved........

It would cost so little to do it properly....

The key to quality......build it in from design through to after sales service.
The overall costs and benefits then tend to be lower.
I remember buying parts for machines in our factory and the bean counters complaining about some until I pointed out and did costings to show longer term savings with less downtime and better products.

Is stainless into aluminium a good idea?

The only fasteners on my Roadster which have suffered are the ones holding the tread rubbers. They would be better plastic.

Steve's comments are slightly depressing given that I have a new one on order but after nearly three years with my 2010 Roadster I feel happy with the fit and finish of it and think it very well made indeed. There have been some preventative measures taken to insulate hoses from wear etc but things like the fit of sidescreens and are superior to any Morgan that I have had previously. I suppose, given the nature of their construction, that some things slip but Sospan is absolutely correct in his opinion. Good God, my English is bad today.

Don't feel depressed meabh, the build quality overall is very good and i'm happy with it. Its just me being fussy and frankly i quite enjoy tidying things up a bit.

I'm sure left alone it would still be ok, i just can't ignore a missing washer especially where they fit studs etc direct to paintwork. Yet they took care to perfectly align the screw slots on the steering wheel and bonnet catches... interesting how much of it is down to individuals building it or standard operating procedures.

These days almost every Morgan built passes from one worker to another along the assembly path. Most of them take pride in their work, but I am sure, just like every other workplace, for some of them it is just a job.

What I find a little "odd" are the things that they know are wrong but don't fix. The last time I was at the factory I saw they were placing a washer under the front of the damper hoop to tilt it further back. Apparently they had known for ages that the angle of the bracket at the base of hoop was slightly wrong but no one had taken action to have the jig corrected. I wonder if it has now been done.
