Can anyone tell me why the majority of the historic sports cars at Montlhery, were right hand drive? Virtually every Bugatti (including Brescias), Alfa Romeo and Amilcar were RHD despite, the majority being French owned and registered.

Maybe coming from S Africa & California where rust is minimal? John I don’t think so; as the majority were battered, well patinated and showing evidence of a French, German or Italian past life. Whilst there Steve (A11OGE) and I had a discussion on the subject, but without conclusion.

It was considered that the driver sitting on the right hand side was better for use on race tracks - I think that Bugatti followed this principle for their road cars as well. Perhaps a Bugatti expert here can confirm this.

Are bends on race tracks then predominately one sided? As a left hander this seems more prejudice. Where are my human rights?

They were very far sighted and realised that post Brexit Britain was the only place that could afford to buy and run these cars This is not a view I share but Farage, Widecombe etc do

Quentin, there was a comment about RHD Bugattis in a recent edition of the BOC journal Bugantics. Unfortunately, I can't remember what was written!

Quentin As they are such narrow cars, and there were so few other vehicles on the road I guess it didn't make a huge amount of difference. I seem to remember hearing somewhere that for screaming up and down Alps and so on with no Armco barriers, the driver being on the kerb-side of the car was seen as an advantage.

You are right Quentin about race tracks, so race cars where right hand drive. About road cars, they where right hand drive until 1930-1932 for ordinary cars and until WW2 for luxury cars (Bugatti, Delahaye, Delage, Horchkiss, Hispano.....) because they were drove by personal drivers so they can open the rear right door for lady as soon as they stop and as they where sited on right side, the owner sited left rear could see the road without any obstruction !. Merci Jacques.
Several good reasons in that article.
