After a bit of contortion on the garage floor I can just read it - they are both stamped MEX 1105

Mex 1105 is the standard silencer, so it should not be to loud is something vibrating to cause this drone?

Hi Guys Thanks for replies. I was busy and had not checked this site for a while.
DaveW, I phoned Mark Baldwin and he told me, that since 2003 (the last Plus Eights) the main silencer has not been changed.
What has changed from MK2 to Roadster Sport (This I have seen with own eyes today in a direct comparison in the garage) is the exhaust manifold for bigger diameter (and more power) and also the cat has changed. Due to this changes the overall length of manifold and cat has grown ca. 5 cm. Therefore the new tube behind the main silencer with the "slashed" end pipe is a bit shorter and with different curves next to the wheel house.
This changes may cause a different sound, but as Apothecary says, there are Sport Roadsters existing which have not this issue.
JJW The intake system is identical with the MK2 I drove before. (BTW and TBH, the best intake system was on MK1, using directly the air slots on the side of the bonnet to get fresh cool air).
Today I have got my car back from the garage. Beside other works they have glued some sound-damping mats inside the (resonating) back. It helps a little bit to quite the car but it does not beat the droning resonances.
Exhausted Thanks for telling the different type numbers. In the weekend I will have a look which type of main silencer I have got. Can you tell me where to find the numbers on the box?
TBH I guess, the main silencer could cause the drone most. As I told before, my experience with a loaned Roadster in 2005 with "sport exhaust" was very similar. I will see (a hope) that the number on my silencer is not Mex 1105.
So far for now, I will let you know how things will go on.

Exhausted
How do Mex 1105, Mex 1107, or Mex 1370 differ in sound? Do they have same shape and length?

sorry for delay guys not been on for a while! the same silencor is fitted as standard on the 4 cylinder and v6 engine, forgive me for my ignorance with the models and years of manufacture! the 4 cylinder engine has a manifold with a 90 deg bend 3" dia, this will join the first cat Mex 1097, 2.1/2 inlet 2" outlet, then a standard Mex 1105 onto a Mex 1182 ( before 12 months ago a round tail pipe) now an oval Mex 1185 the v

the v6 for approx 5 yrs up to about 8 months ago had a Mex 997 and Mex 998 short stubby manifold, then the cat bolts on with a three bolt flange Mex 1252 Mex 1253 then either a pair of Mex 1105 standard or 1107 (sports) then the Mex 1182 and 1183, now oval on the new models with a new number I think 1185 1186. these are now joined with a new clamp on the end, the only reason for this is because the round pipe could be twisted and you wouldn't know, but now it's oval it needs to be straight, so you have movement to adjust the "twist"

the new engines say 8 months have a manifold that is longer, it fits the same exhaust and cat but the cat now joins with an olive and not the triangular 3 bolt join as before, the side exit silencer is almost the same as a 1107 but it's shorter to be able to come out the side of the car, the bracket that holds the silencer on the side exit has to be moved closer to the front of the car, as it's shorter you could not just bend a 90 deg tube out the side of the standard or sports 1105 or 1107 as they would be longer it would be to far back near the rear wheel!

1105 standard restricted should be quiet 1107 sports 1370 only on 4 cyl sporty compared to 1105 but not as much as 1107 would come with a tail pipe Mex 1375 that only has a rolled end on it, no baffle looking oval tail pipe just round tube
