The Microbus is really a nice car in a good shape. Here it is not only retro as a fashion but a well thought space concept which reminds the great heritage. It would be the only current VW I like.

Quartic steering wheel - is it an Allegro on steroids?? Many years ago I fancied one of the early VW Microbus. Might have had something to do with the girlfriend at the time

Quartic steering wheel - is it an Allegro on steroids?? I suspect that might be one of the features that doesn't make it to the production model, tho' unlike the Allegro they do have a good reason for doing it like that.

What a great looking vehicle. The rumour is that they all come with the Beach Boys back catalogue pre-programmed into the sound system.

Lancia Aurelia B20 Outlaw, saw one today in Evian getting ready for the 30th Coupe des Alpes. Beautiful - as we've touched on here before.

I think age has held back some folks on here. As well as the mog, we have the following Bright orange GT86 it has nice lines and is lithe. A bright green mx5 nd, difficult to pick fault with it. And bright yellow smart roadster a fun weird little car that is a brilliant drive. Yes they have turned a few heads. Maybe not everyone's cup off tea as long as they wow you that is all that matters at the end of the day. If you come out of your house and you don't cast a longing look over the design of your cars maybe you could be accused of being practical or sensible, where's the fun in that?

For us the Alfa Sud Sprint was the "wow" car of the late 70s. The Rover SD1 The TR7
More recently, there is little, although the first series Ford Focus made me look at it, unlike a Golf.
Now, we have 3 cars, 2 make me go "wow" and two make Caroline go "wow". We agree about the Plus 8. After 5 years I still find myself looking at her in the garage, and smiling.

I must admit one car that made me stand up and go wow was the Citroen GS. Dad had previously been a VW man but the range at that time was terrible so he looked around.
Lancia Beta (dodged a bullet there) Citroen GS 1220 Estate Peugeot 504 Estate
These were the choices that made it to the short list.
Following a Beetle 1300s, Type 3 Variant and then a Type 4 Variant the GS was like a spacecraft.
The suspension did shock absorption and floated up and down. The engine was small high revving and efficient, but sounded like only a flat-4 could. The dash was straight out of flash gordon with the single spoke wheel. The interior was so light and modern in a way only the french could do at the time.
Then within two years you could poke fingers through the rust holes in most of the panels and the paint looked like it had been sanded!
Guess what brand the next car was.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

I grew up with Citreons both parents had them. Dad reputedly had the 2nd GS estate in the country. Many a happy mile I had sat in the pop up seats in the boot.
He only ever had two other makes a Granada and a Renault 25. Then back to Citreons.
He stuck with them even after one of the GS's reversed over him breaking several vertebrae !

Thanks for reminding me of the smart roadster! All the first series smarts were kind of wow. Loved the twoseater glass top as well as soft top. The crossblade was wow and the roadster smashed me - that is fun driving...
